Is extended maintenance warranty worth it?

Is purchasing a extended maintenance warranty worth it if I'm planning in keeping the vehicle?

I got the 7/100, and I've used up 1/2 of it so far on my 335i. I've never so much as had one issue.....yet.

It's actually hard to say. I guess the reason I went for it was the amount, it doesn't break the bank on a 3 Series.

My buddy decided against with his 550i, because it was 7k. Months after he decided against he paid about $1600 for his water pump.

Nobody can say--but since BMW sells them for profit, they're probably not worth it. Heck, they even exclude the $3,600 sub-frame damage issue that's caused by BMWs poor design.

It's hard to say. I bought mine for $1700. and my car has 93k miles on it right now. The only major service it covered were the brakes which got replaced 3 months ago. Two maybe 3 oil changes after 50k I have one more left before it hits 100k miles.

I would not keep any of the newer German cars out of warranty.

You have to distinguish between extended "maintenance" and extended "warranty". I think there is a decent case for extended WARRANTY in our cars.

The extended MAINTENANCE is a waste of money, IMHO. If you total up what you get, unless you are a traveling salesman that drives constantly, you can get the same thing done at a good indy shop for much less, or even at the dealer. They don't sell it to you with the expectation of losing money.

I hope to be ok with a 3......but again, I can't imagine having a 6 or 7 and face a 9-11k repair just because an o-ring/tube corroded and the coolant is leaking....people go into it knowing of these design defects and yet they still "have to" drive a BMW.....

i regret purchasing maintenance warranty. only worth it if you manage to squeeze out two full brake pad + rotor replacements, plus a handful of cabin, engine and oil changes. unlikely for many people, including myself.

I think it's funny how indies are supposed to be your best friends. I got quoted $168 for a brake flush when I shopped dealers and found one who charged only $125. And we're talking about $10 worth of fluid.

I know what you mean. One Indy was trying to charge me $5xx.xx for the oil filter housing gasket the dealer wanted $6xx.xx and some change. i found another indy on craiglist that did it for $2xx.xx and some . What i should've done is bought the extended warranty. I cant remember how many times my car's been in the shop..

I can say from my experience the extended warranty package has been worth it -- when I initially bought my car off of lease, a lot of things went wrong in the first 4 weeks, where it easily paid for itself 2x over. It also gives me the piece of mind to not worry about what will go wrong next; and you can't put a price on piece of mind

Man this is a tough decision... BMW South County quoted me about $1800 for extended maintenance warranty. Realistically will I be recouping those cost on a 328i?

Not to get too OT, but the deal of the century was when a body shop wanted $1600 to do the lower rad support on my other car, and a forum member did it for $130. That's proof that forums rock!

I got mine for $1500 on my 06' 325i. I have had two front brake jobs, one rear, 3 oil changes, two coolant hoses, and a seal on the bottom of the oil filler. In all reality I broke even. I can do all of this myself BUT I no longer have time to do it so I would have had to pay someone. FYI...my water pump just went out at 3 WEEKS past the package date...time limit hit...not milage...I'm at 88K. Will be doing this and the thermostat at the same time myself....$600 parts VS $1200 at the dealer. I will spend the $600 I save on something I don't need but I like!!

i would say that it's worth it if you drove the car enough where you would be needing the brake pads/rotors/sensors replaced

The CPO or extended warranty is worth it.
The maine. package at $2K is a waste of money and you are better off not spending the cash.

BMW has made the oil interval 15K and they only pay at that interval. So the maximum number of oil changes is 3, maybe brakes, wiper blades, cabin filter and maybe, just maybe 1 or two sets of plugs.

I bought it but wish I had not.

Do not buy extended maintenance. It covers only scheduled maintenance and the intervals are very long. You'd be lucky to get back even half of the money you paid for the extended maintenance contract by the time it ends. Set a little money aside each month to pay maintenance costs.

OP was asking about extended maintenance, not warranty.

Basically, extended maintenance is only worth it IF the car will need both front and rear brakes DURING the 2 year/50k coverage window and the price is well below $2k.

I bought my 08 335i vert with 43,xxx miles. The factory maintenance warranty was going to expire at 50,xxx miles. So I Just bought a 5 year platinum or 100,000 which ever comes first warranty . Let's just say within a year that I've owned the car buying the extended warranty paid for itself lol . Im so glAd I bought it.

Warranty work done so far...
1. 2 brand new turbos
2.new spark plugs
3. New injectors
4.new alternator
5. Fixed oil and transmission leak

I'm the 3rd owner of a 5 year old 328i, buy it if you know previous owners modded the hell out of it, if you know nothing about BMW's problems (like me, this forum HELPED), and peace of mind. I'm not complaining about spending $2k for warranty, if I did I shouldn't be driving a BMW.

I just bought a 335 that has had new turbo's, clutch, fuel pump, water pump replaced; yet I will still be purchasing an extended warranty for peace of mind. BMW profits from these or they profit from their insanely high parts costs and labor. you decide...BMW will win lol

Why does everyone keep confusing extended maintenance with extended warranty? The OP is asking about maintenance not warranty I believe, unless he is confused also.

I am thinking of extended warranty, after reading this, I guess I will bet my odds not buying it...
