Cheapest drop option for pre-LCI 328xi?
I'm looking for a reasonable drop for so-so roads here in Canada. Nothing too extreme (since I also have 20mm spacers on rears). For all year round driving with preferably same ride comfort. Can anyone give rough estimate (parts and labor)? Thank you
UPDATE: so I found Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs set of 4 - for $260, claims to lower rear 1 inch and front 1.2 inch while maintaining same shocks/struts and with same ride comfort. Can anyone attest this is truly so (regarding ride comfort)? Also, website lists only set for 328i - so does the 328xi has same springs exactly? And finally, will I encounter any alignment issues after such change? Last edited by WhiteBeard; 04-30-2016 at 06:45 PM.. |

CHEAPEST is going to be to cut springs but obviously DON'T DO THAT. I've had the pro kit on stock shocks/struts on an 07 e90 and it's more harsh but bearable. I just did the same kit on a 2010 e90 with Koni yellows and the ride is amazing. Probably nicer than stock but my ride height is a little uneven and I'm working on figuring out why. That's not a cheap option though. It all depends on what your total budget is.

So I'm looking at roughly $2-2,3K to start and hope everything will go as planned - I only wish it was a bit easier than that. Last edited by WhiteBeard; 05-02-2016 at 07:38 AM.. |

Also your options are limited with Xdrive. I've seen a number of people happy with KW v1, but they'll cost around $1800-2000 (that's with a preferred price using a local vendor).
If you're interested and are getting higher quotes, let me know and I'll see if I can find the vendor for you.

Cheapest always turns into more expensive in the long run....
Lowering springs are meant to be paired with struts/shocks that are valved correctly for the lower ride height. While you may get away with just lowering springs on your stock struts/shocks for a short while, you will prematurely wear them out due to them not being valved correctly for lower ride height. If you have more than 50k miles on your suspension, they won't last more than 10k miles. This means you will have to pay labor a second time to replace the struts/shocks and ultimately pay labor twice when you could just pay labor once if it's done correctly. |

kW v1's are closer to 1200 then 1800, definitely a nice upgrade. We're driving BMW's here, the cheapest option should be kinda the last option. Why buy a great car and use junk to mod it?

We are located in Canada where:
a) Currency exchange means $1200 USD is much higher in CAD ($1200 USD is approx. $1570 CAD) b) Parts still have to be sourced from the US (in most cases) and deal with cross-border shipping, plus customs and duties, which also add to the final price for us.

Whiteboard, Please check out my link on the sponsor forum and website. I sell full-assembled suspension kits. Its not on the site yet, but I am building xi kits for 2 other people. $1249 for Eibach Prokit and Koni adjustable yellows and all new parts and hardware, including strut mounts and bumpstops. These are ready to install so you can do it yourself rather than pay the dealer. Even if you took it to a shop, the cost would only be half of the normal charge For the xi, Koni Yellow and Eibach are your best choice.
Best regards, Chris Quote:

Assuming this is priced in USD, right? How much shipped to Canada (Toronto)? I know others with xdrive who may be interested.
