What street in MDR was it on? On a different forum, a member stated he was stopped on Imperial HWY in El Segundo. I think I saw one on Centinela between the 90 and Jefferson one time. I was going down Jefferson, and saw it passing Centinela, looked like smog check but couldn't tell for sure.

Not sure about other districts....
the Smog check station i saw was kinda "disguised" as a road work....you'll see 3-4 white pickups or utility trucks....with a CHP vehicle behind....there should be 3-4 signs ahead indicating right lane closed, go slow, survey station ahead..etc....

then i saw a small ramp and what seems like a mobile dyno in the middle on the right lane....that made me believed that was the mobile smog check station....

this is exactly what i saw one day around the montebello area. i was out on lunch with a coworker picking up food for our group...the situation:

*look at one another* wtf? dui checkpoint at 12pm?

pull up in his civic, "what year is your car and do you have a minute? we're performing random tests for a survey"

"it's a 2003 civic, but we're actually in a rush...we're picking up food for a meeting *flash work badge*"

"ok, thanks"

Hmm... from what I saw, the right lane was closed, there were 3-4 CHP vehicles. 2 of them were the pick up truck vehicles. I couldn't see if there was a ramp for a dyno looking thing, and I didn't notice any signs for a survey. But it did look some what like a DUI check point with that many CHPs and the right lane being coned off. The reason why I guessed it was a smog check and not DUI is because I heard CHP is in charge of the SMOG check stations, and the time of day being 10 am or so.

The way E90Slam and Baoer make it sound is that they try to make it into a "survey." which Baoer said they told the CHP they didn't have time... If that's the case, then you can just refuse to take the survey.

This guy tells his story in detail, but doesn't sound like his experience was masked as a "survey."
