Exclamation Stopped and had your smog checked in OC SoCal?

Any of you guys with c@tless downpipes in OC Socal been stopped and had your smog or emissions checked? And then had your car impounded or anything? Someone was telling me about this so I'm worried about using DP's.

My friend/neighbor texted me about a smog check point by my house in West Covina but I was chilling at home. They can either give you a ticket or can impound the car on the spot.

I didn't know they had these either, it has to usually only be where they have heavy "rice" traffic. Otherwise these would be a waste of tax payers dollars and law enforcements time.

Is there theory that our cars, being inherently less ricey, won't be as likely to be targeted?

There is a slightly better chance of course, but if you're heavily modded w/ loud exhaust & air intake ect ect, they will most likely take their chances.

wow, that's crazy with impound with just intake and exhaust.
Imagine they set this up outside a meet parking lot.
I m sure they can impound at least 10 car every meet.

how is that possible.. intakes and exhausts are legal. Or do you mean intake and exhaust causes you to be stopped to be checked for cats?

Question 2: putting in c atless dp's still leaves your secondary cats intact, right? would you still be able to pass with just those if stopped?

There are legal exhausts with high-flow cats and such, so I don't see how with a legal intake and exhaust they can ticket you.

Which comes back to my original question... if you remove the dp cats but still have your secondary cats, will it pass whatever test they run?

In most cases, you will just get a ticket.

In all of my years on SoCalEvo, where 99.98% of the members run catless, no one has ever gotten towed because of this reason.

It is quite useless. You go back to stock for a day, go to a ref station and have them see that your car is indeed stock, and the next day...you're back to being modified.

FYI you can get a ticket for intake as well if it doesn't have a CARB sticker. It's BS, but technically, you can still get a ticket for it.

that's true, and aren't AFE and Injen still in the "in application" phase for CARB?

I think it was Jeff at SupremePower that was mentioning that they've stopped giving tickets and are now impounding from what he's heard.
