Nice place to live near Baltimore

So after thinking I may move to CA, I was offered another position (much better offer same company I work for now) that may have me relocate to MD.

I actually dont live TO far from Balimore now, and while I would only have to spend 3 days a week in the Baltimore area, I am not sure I want to do that commute and they will only let me rent hotel rooms for so long. (Plus they are offering relocation).

Soooo, I really dont know anything about Maryland (except Ocean City). What are some nice area's to live down there. Not sure if I am going to buy a house right away since this position may only be a year to a year and a half (long story but its a stepping stone to a much larger position), if I dont I will probably rent my house out here and rent a place.

Background on me, I am 30, recently single so it would be nice if they place has some nightlife. I am kind of spoiled where I live now, I am an hour from Philly, NYC and the beach.

I would prefer something with some space to it, it doesnt have to be huge but my current house is 4000 sq ft and I have a nice two car garage. I pretty much thing a garage is a must even if its an apartment or townhouse.

So whats a good area thats say 30 min driving to Baltimore but still a very nice area.

Rental prices and housing ranges would be nice.

Thanks!

most of the nightlife in the Baltimore area will be in the city, like Inner Harbor and Fells Point. Not much nightlife in the suburbs, but you can get to/from within 15-20 mins.

You may want to look at Annapolis. Not very far from Baltimore or DC. On the water - great seafood. Plenty of nightlife.

Nope I am already home lol. Actually its really not far from my house only 140 miles.

When it comes closer to the actual offer I will probably spend more time down there and check out ther area.

Let me know when your next meet is though I will try and make it down to check it out.

I was just looking at Annapolis. Those Regatta Bay apartments look pretty nice and they have garages.

Not for a single 30-something. I'd vote for Federal Hill/East Harbor. Lots of 20/30 something professionals. Great restaurants/bars. Many condos/apartments will have garages, less so with the townhouses (I think).

Look for other locations near Aliceanna St/Henderson's Wharf

I live in charm city. I have to say that the Nightlife is NOT like DC, but its decent. More bars than lounges.

I HIGHLY recommend Fell's Point/Harbor EAST. Very nice shops/stores/restaurants/walking around area.

Fed hill is nice too, but I would live in Fell's.

In addition to Fells Point and Federal Hill, Canton is nice. Additionally, it seems that Canton is a little more "Young Professional," whereas Fed Hill is college-y, and Fells Point is more just a place to go to drink at the bars. There are very nice homes with brand new renovations that are beautiful. They aren't anywhere near your 4000 sq ft home now, but the area is nice and on the up n up. Decent amount of Bars and there is a good sense of community. You can find something with a garage as well, but it WILL cost a little more. Decent/nice rowhomes start at 300K.

very true, right now great deals are to be found in Fed HIll, Canton, Butchers HIll, etc.

With the recent boom and fall in that market, builders/rehabbers put ever cool gadget and design they could think of to differentiate their properties from the 200 others for sale, so you can find some very interesting rowhomes right now. Great time to buy IMO.

For example, here is a bathroom and a few other shots in a rowhome I have for sale in Washington Village.......not too shabby. Right now they are rental properties though. this home was torn down to the ground and widened from its orginal size, its now 16 feet wide vs the standard 12 or 13 foot rowhome you will find.

shots were taken a year or so ago just prior to final punch out.
