Yeah, I may seem like a hypocrit sayin I hate seein multiple threads on the same issue, but like I said I should have looked a lil more carefully first. Hopefully a mod will lock/delete this, if not the article/video is good haha.

That is already more than they are offering in other countries. What a bunch of litigious bitches we are.

I guess then there's no preventable accident because inaction shall be course of action until material injury has manifested. Lawyers are definitely circling around this and salivating but for them to proceed there has to be case for them. BMW gave them the case.

I am speculating and making assumptions why BMW hasn't stopped repeated HPFP but either BMW doesn't have a fix or it's taking the less costier route.

Tonight while watching ABC World News, they did a short piece on this, and had graphic with the words "N54 Twin Turbo Engines". I just had to laugh. Practically no one besides BMW enthusiasts know what the heck that is... and here it is blasting on the nightly news for all of America to see.

This one does http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=447263

Even mentions that the remaining 40,000 will get the same pumps that have been documented to fail

Way to force a non-fix on everyone.

Entire situation FAIL. This costs everyone. Owners' time, BMW's money, forum's relevant space....

And in the end, your pump will still fail.

Sry but I doubt it. You can't think of any more relevant occurrences in corporate management/procedure in the last couple of years affecting more people than an intent to recall the N54 HPFP and thus more deserving of a case study?

Those of you who have gotten the software update (BMWorNOTHING, Fortbimmer, etc.), did you notice any loss of performance after the update?
I have not noticed a drop off in performance. I need to flog it in the higher RPM ranges to make sure.

I would be curious as well to see if anyone has any negative experiences with the newer software.

Why don't the people who are still concerned speak up and fill ABC in on the whole story? I feel like someone would hear you out since this is a hot topic at the moment for them, especially if you approached them at the same time with the details. Something tells me that producers would love to spice things up a bit more.

I don't usually post but on this one I had to register.

BMW has been planning for awhile to step up to the plate like they always do. First off the 10yr 120k extension. This was a distraction from what they saw coming down the pipes. The number 40k is probably the amount of fuel pumps they are going to replace out of the 130k engines they came but more than likely a whole lot more. BMW has been working hard on this since middle to early 2009 for the almighty fuel pump. They have only revised it what like 6 times. This new pump started production in June of this year, and has been so supposedly the one.

BMW knew this was going to air today and they worked out a deal to get everything set in place once this was going to come out. Imagine all these cars it is going to effect do they or are they going to have all these in stock??? All dealers were notified first thing yesterday morning that this was going to hit. Some inside dealers knew late last week.

What really is in the new software??? Rumor has it, it lets BMW know if there is software added to the vehicle. It might be some power adjustment to hope save the fuel pump but why when they know they are already going to have to pay for atleast one fuel pump in the first 120k miles maybe more. Or just a distraction waiting for the almighty pump to come out. When the dealers go through the test plan to get approval for the pumps they have to send the cars data back to BMW to et the pricing little fuel pump approved. Then they can see anything and everything about the car and the history.

My 2 cents about it.

Is HPFP failure also commonly occurring on the 4.4L V8? I ask this because I know of someone with a new 750Li that had HPFP failure.

Kind of sad from an engineering standpoint really. If you can't design a reasonably priced pump that operates at 200 bar *reliably* then maybe you should rethink the spec.

Do you have documentation of this? There have been a few hints at N63 HPFP failure, but non confirmed. If you can provide documentation that would be excellent for those of us looking to learn more about this than "zomg N54 suckzz HPFP ftllllll"

Honestly, if there was a chance my car could suddenly lose power during a left turn, I'd be pretty scared too.

For the time being, I'm going with this. If they had a reliable pump, I don't see why they wouldn't just come out and say we have a reliable pump. Read it closely - it is not a recall. It is a letter to the EPA regarding an intended recall. Until an official recall is issued it is all just speculation, though the way this one is worded, to me it just seems like they are "making official" what dealers have been doing for years anyway. Perhaps a standardized "inspection" will be implemented, taking the issue more seriously than "software updated symptoms gone", which would be nice if it included a pressure test, but again it's all speculation at this point.

It'll be interesting to follow this one and see where it goes. Though based on the OP, it doesn't sound like much of anything is changing. Dealers and owners have obviously known about this for years, and it sounds like they will continue doing what they have been doing all along.

So far, I haven't experienced any symptoms of the HPFP failure(knock on wood). Will i still receive something from BMW addressing the issue?

No, unfortunately I don't. I only know that a friend of mine was heading out for a weekend trip in an F01 750Li which went into limp mode on the highway and the owner was told it was the high pressure fuel pump.
