Resonator delete needs a H-pipe for proper boost?

Hey, what is your opinion on this guys...I am getting my resonator deleted and the muffler shops say I need a H pipe to balance out the exhaust if I delete the resonator or it will not boost right since it is twin turbo (he stated something about boosting at different times)...I am not a exhaust guru but out of all the resonator threads I have seen this has not been stated, just want to be sure.

Garage List
not necessary at all. some aftermarket exhausts run fully divorced (no h-pipe or x-pipe, AE performance for example). others have h-pipes and x-pipes. the n54 boost control doesn't care what kind of exhaust setup you have, it won't run into any issues with "not boosting right"

Doesnt matter... I am running a fully divorced exhaust and it sounds great and performs great.

I'm not sure if it is affected but maybe he was thinking that it's a sequential turbo system

Either you are not understanding what the guy at the shop said,or he is truly mistaken. Hpipe is definitely not needed.

H-pipe and Xpipe basically changes the frequency of the exhaust note...

I asked him today about it and he thought it was a sequential turbo system...my fault for not hearing that and sating that.

Just did a resonator delete today with a Magnaflow x-pipe. Sounds great! I have catless DPs, stock mufflers, stock 2nd cats in place.

No drone, but it sure livened things up a bit under heavy throttle. I highly recommend this for all those e90's out there who don't want the headaches or expenses associated with a full exhaust.

Yup, making a statement like that shows he's very much out of his depth of understanding. It's not just a wrong statement, it's a very ignorant statement. Sequential, parallel, whatever it doesn't matter. Dead wrong no matter the situation.

One purpose of the cross over pipe (x or h pipe) is to balance the back pressure from bank to bank. If you have higher back pressure in one bank than the other, then your turbo will spool differently, thus, "not boost right" in the words of your mechanic. The exhaust on these 335i are pretty straight and run right beside eachother from turbo to tail pipe...equal length and diameter means equal flow unless you stick a potato in the tail pipe.
The crossover pipe will change your exhaust note and I've heard it can be used for exhaust tuning, but I don't know alot about that part of the equation.

It's been a while since I looked under my car...do these exhausts not already have a cross over pipe?
