MEGA Brake dust!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I've had my 335d now for a couple of months, and the Brake dust is really getting on my nerves....

Does anyone else find that once your car is lovely and clean 40-50 miles down the road the wheels are near black....

I'm very into my detailing products, and have put a couple of coats of wheel wax on my wheels, and they do wash up like new every time.....

But it getting to me now, so my question is can you now buy a hard compound brake pad for a E92 Coupe......., or would the BMW Performance brake upgrade be any good.....

Any thoughts or answers would be great............

to be honest i havnt noticed mine getting that bad ... do you drive like carlos ?

only this week i enquired about the Performance Brakes, the parts guy at the dealers gave me a 'wtf is that

' look when i asked for them. He said he would find out from BMW and ring me back. When he called he explained they were not available for the 335D and anyway they would offer no benefit over the standard brakes on my car ... hmm, i thought they were available , never mind

Try somewhere like a demon tweekes or a dedicated performance specialist, from memory im sure there are pads available to minimise brake dust, unsure what they are called though. A friend of mine bought some a long time ago for his modified nissan, seemed to work well as I recall.

Only concern would be the qaulity of aftermarket pads vs your pads, especially as you have a 335, and possible warranty issues?

I'm with you on this one....does my nut

I'm having a ground hog day doing this, wash car, clean alloys, seal wheels, go for drive, get out of car...and....back to clean wheels!! Do seem to give of a lot of dust. Had some EBC's pads on my last motor, they were a lot better, haven't checked them out for the e90 yet.

bigamos - i have exactly the same problem - i have a 335i and my alloys are covered in brake dust very shortly after fully cleaning them - although i have to admit i do drive my car pretty hard and can be quite heavy on the braking - but the brake dust is worse than any other car ive owned before, including all my M3's. I will be interested to know what you source to sort the issue.

I would say fit brakes from a bigger engined car but as you already have the 335d, I'm not sure what you could do apart from getting a proper brake set up, which will cost thousands.

Quick alternatives -
Green stuff pads, forgot the actual name for these!
Uprate the brakes from a bigger car, you could put M3 brakes on I suppose but that would be expensive I imagine.
If you really want to spend money, get an AP set up

Green stuff pads will reduce the brake dust a lot and are pretty good. I used to have these on a MK3 Golf I had.

I have the same problem, but I just thought I would wait until the performance brakes hit the dealers. Trouble is, no dealer seems to have any in stock. I don't know why there is such a problem with supply because no one seems to have actually bought any.

I will try some green stuff pads if the performance range still aren't available come new pads time.

i'm told the AP set have caused broken suspension links around the ring, they are so fierce...

Personally I wouldnt use Greenstuff - have had them on the Westfield and Lotus (fitted by previous owners) and they really arent that brilliant - good at cutting down on dust, but not so good at stopping!!!

Is this to do with the fact that as an auto, you will be spending a lot more on the brakes as you will with engine braking?

I get a lot of dust too.. but put this down to this fact.

I've never got on with Mintext pads previosuly, but I did have a set of Black Diamond pads for my Subaru and was impressed. Haven't tried EBC pads fpr some time but Green or Yellow Stuff pads would be best unless you do some track work where Red Stuff would be better.

Think it may only be red and yellow that you buy now for normalish road/track stuff, not sure if they still do greenstuff. I used them once in the past with a set of EBC dimpled and grooved discs and hated them, they were rubbish cold and very noisy once warmed up. I rather go down the mintex/ferodo DS route.

Axxis Deluxe are supposed to be good brake pads and cut down on brake dust.

I think they're called axxis deluxe , but now theres a 3rd word (starts with an A, but I am blanking on it right now.)

dont think they will be as good as the stock pad. Dont think the original poster has an issue with performance just the dust.
