Intro/photo & $3,200 USAA WARRANTY opinion/question.

Hello, I guess this will serve as my first thread and introduction as well.
I have already posted in the E82 forum but I thought I get input from e90 as well since they have the N54.

I just bought a one owner 2009 135i manual transmission with 68,000 last week. It has Dinan oil cooler and Dinan stg 3 suspension with rear sway bar.

I am looking into buying an extended COMPREHENSIVE warranty through USAA since I was a former US Marine. The cost is $3,200 for a 2 year/24k miles warranty that pretty much covers everything except wear and tear.

Along with general maintenance, these items were replaced at such miles:

-HPFP at 16k
-Ignition coils 53k
-LPFP sensor 68k
-6 injectors 68k

The only EXPENSIVE thing that I have read that can go wrong within two years are the turbochargers and AC evaporators.

Question:

Is it better for me to purchase this 24k miles coverage or save the $3,200 for repairs?

I would personally save the money for repairs as they come.

I agree with mark, you may find yourself spending less then that in maintenance costs over the next 2 years, hopefully. Sweet ride btw.

It will cost less than that in unexpected repairs. Like a lot less.

I did a 60 month additional 50k miles warranty from NAC (their best plan)for 2k including tax and $50 deductable. Purchased 6 months ago when the car was just under 4 years old and had 9k miles on it. I looked at USAA also and was way more money and shorter term for more money.

Check out Penfed's Route 66 warranty. It's roughly $2000 and an exclusionary policy.

Also, you might have to contend with the water pump pretty soon. That along with a leaking oil filter housing gasket, or the belt pulleys can get you up there.

I think it could depend on what kind of miles you plan to put on this, but $3200 is still probably too much. You may only end up spending $1000-$1500 total over that same time period for repairs/maintenance. Even if you don't want to believe BMW's recommended maintenance schedule and just DIY, it still shouldn't cost very much. I would shop around first. If it were in the $2000 ballpark, I'd say maybe, but any more than that, no.

Beautiful car, by the way!

Save the money for when the repairs are needed. I don't believe you'll spend 1/4 of that on repairs, unless you bought a lemon.

Don't do it. Find something cheaper or just set aside the money for repairs as needed.
