Red BRAKE and lift symbol.....

I know i am due for rear brakes soon. CBS says i have 6000 miles left on rear. Today though BRAKE lit up in red and i got the car on a lift symbol in red.

The CBS still says i have 6000 miles on the rear though.

So do i change pads and rotors now? Do i wait till the CBS counts down to zero? Am i supposed to get an actual rear brake symbol like in the CBS menu? Is this anything at all to do with my rear brakes? Should i just reset it?

Yes this is very normal and typical on all E90's . To answer your question yes replace the the rotors, pads, and do not forget to replace the sensor!. Even though your car sais you can go another 6k miles realisticlly you cant. Im sure they are all ready worn down to their max. I would check the front brakes as well. As soon as that sensor is replaced along with the other brake components the car lift symbol and brake light will go away on there own. I hope this helps.

yea it does, main thing was whether i should trust this warning over the CBS, which it sounds like i should.

fronts were done a few months ago while under warranty, rears are going to be out of pocket dyi.

strange though how it went back out again when i let it sit for a few hours and restarted.

it might be uneven brake pad wear where your rotors are damaged and is wearing out the brake pads quicker. bring it to a shop they'll tell you if you need to replace the rotors. usually a rotor = 2 brake pad changes

rotors definitely need replacing, have 112k on them. theres a good lip formed in there now. to be honest i think i am on the original rear brake pads still.

im not concerned about uneven brake pad wear because they haven't worn down fast at all, if anything they have lasted a very long time.

only issue i have is that the red brake light lit up with the lift symbol when the CBS was saying 6000 remaining. After letting the car sit, the symbol and error have vanished.

Have it checked out while you are still under warrenty if you dont the dealership can get pricy unless you DIY. The CBS gives a good general idea of the pad wear but as the pad starts to wear so will the sensor and it makes the CBS inaccurate.

Ohh my bad I didnt see that it had 112k miles on it. In that case if you are mechanicly inclined do it your self. There are some good DIY post on here . If you were local I would be able to service it for your but any how I would'nt worry to much about the warning signs your car gave you, bottom line it just means its time for a brake service

Interesting usually they come on and stay on. Keep on eye on it if but better yet service the car before they come back on. Good luck and happy driving
