Totally agree that Mega's comment is ridiculous.

If you had read my earlier post you would maybe have noticed a few crucial words ..... death by reckless driving and responsibility in particular. The risks are simply too high for anyone with half a brain, how would you feel if YOU killed or seriously injured someone because you are such a big man that you can drive at over 100mph on a road with many other members of the public for whom you have no control over their actions.

Plenty of fun to be had below 80mph especially on B roads.

I've taken my car to 130 before purely to see how stable it felt but I can't say it gave me any buzz, certainly not something to be done outside of a deserted motorway at 3am.

Note how I specifically said get yourself on a track day.

You drive a car that can do 155 and have never taken it above 100. Utterly ridiculous.

But as you say even a 1.2 Corsa can do over 110 so therefore it seems everyone on the roads is being ridiculous and buying cars that are much too powerful for the normal road. 50cc Scooters for us all clearly unless of course we do track days but even then why have a powerful car for everyday use, just get a powerful track toy.

As has been said, it's perfectly possible to have fun under the speed limit but you have to hammer it around tight country bends to get the thrill, especially in a diesel. But that in itself is a problem, I reckon it's more dangerous doing 55mph around a tight country bend than 115 in a straight line.

My opinion on that changed the day I saw a cycalist fatality on the main road from Ashbourne to Buxton. Not in a million years is it worth legally hammering it if visibility isn't 100%.

115 is keeping your foot on the pedal for way too long to be fair. It is pretty easy to go quick but you know when you need to lift off. As someone else said, I drive mine by hammering it up to the legal limit, nowt wrong with that providing your not doing it in traffic, in a built up area or in the wet.

If you do get a nip and court appearance, I don't think it's in the same league as drink driving and serial offences. I think it's usually a few months ban, 3 - 6 months.

That's a good thing about England where you can get small bans.

It is a minimum of 1 year up here.

My mate got 28 days for 106 or 107mph when down south.

Nah, I couldn't do that. For all I enjoy many parts of England I will stay where I am.

Life is easy up here in Aberdeen.

Besides we have less chance of getting caught speeding in the first place. There is only a tiny fraction of the cameras and effort to catch speeding drivers up here.

Some very good points to stick to the speed limit on A/B roads....

but on the motorway, there should be NO speed limit at all!!!...I'm in, for these "Autobahn no speed limit" ...

fcukin ridiculous, where on the motorway the speed limit is 70mph....

if you think 70 mph is fast enough for the motorway...then there's something wrong with you and you shouldn't hold a licence...and that goes to that racing guy aswell....who said that 70mph is fast enough for the motorway!!!......(can't remember his name)

What was the speed limit on the road?

Some 'B' roads are a 70 limit,so if you were less than double the limit, you might just get lucky, and escape with just 3/5pts and a fine.

Are you thinking of Damon Hill?
He said recently (words to the effect) that he "shuddered at the thought of the average British motorist being allowed to legally drive at 80mph" when he was asked, as a representative of the BRDC, his thoughts on the subject of the conservative government raising the motorway limit to 80mph

Not in the UK they're not. The most you can drive is the "National Speed Limit" which is 60mph on a single carriageway or 70mph on a dual carriageway, but there aren't any dual carriageways classed as B roads and, even if there were, the OP stated he wasn't on one.

There are some amazingly straight roads in Lincolnshire, hence why he managed to get up to 115mph. However that does seem a bit mad to me.

However I am rather more shocked that anyone would buy a 335d and never take it over 80mph!

Aren't any B Class roads where the limit is over 60mph for sure, he also states at least 115 so perhpas somewhere in the region of twice the limit. Even in a 335d that doesn't happen by accident and a Judge will not see it as inadvertent speeding.

Could his defence not be he was chewing a massive bit of bubble gum and he got overtook by a poxy 318i with a M3 badge on.

Coughed in fecking amazement, the chewing gum fell out, got caught on the accelerator peddle and try as hard as he could it was just stuck flat to the floor

I'm amazed by some comments. Obviously none making comments about 100mph+ have never owned a bike or know anyone who does.

Surely you know the expression;
"There are lots of old bikers. And there are lots of brave bikers...
But not many old, brave bikers". Having said that, popping up to 100 from 50 is a matter of a couple of seconds on a decent superbike....probably part of the reason for the Darwinian selection.

I was always appalling at the Highway code,it's comforting to know that things haven't changed
