The furniture market is something like the car market. You got your first tier designers/manufacturers that innovate and generate an original high quality product, but you pay a lot for it (e.g., DWR). Then you've got your second tier that does some of its own design work, but largely follows the trends from the first tier (e.g., Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn). Finally, you've got your bargain basement companies that clone/modify designs from the first two tiers (e.g., Ikea)
