Can Renntech flash out my DEF pump and still pass CA emissions? I've been having issues with it going through DEF way faster than it should and would just like to get rid of it

For all those who are worried about voiding there CPO warranties with tunes and code deletes, the solution is simple. Find a used DME for your car, send it to a tuner along with your original DME and have them clone it to the spare. You can then flash whatever tune you like to the DME along with whatever emissions components you want coded out. If you ever have a problem and need to take it in to the dealer or get your car inspected all you have to do is swap out the DME and put your original back in.

I have a spare DME that I picked up for around $400 and had it cloned to be compatible with my car. I have a 2011 w/ 47,000 miles on it with CPO. My CPO warranty pretty much went out of the window as soon as I bought the car. If it din't then it will next week when the hybrid turbos go on my car.

great idea - what is the part number and are they all the same for 2011?

Can't wait to hear what kind of HP you get with new turbos.

There's at least one problem with this route.

If you delete the DPF regen from the ECU but not the hardware, the filter will clog up so badly you won't be able to drive the car anymore.

Definitely dont get the DPF deletes in the flash if you dont have a pipe. The thing to do would be to get a pipe, flash your 2nd computer, then swap the pipe and computer when needed. Talk about hassle

so if you want to stay with a stock hardware but still get Lennys / jarek stg 1 upgrade on a 2nd computer, could EGR only be coded out / shutdown with stg1? or is it all or nothing type of deal, meaning EGR shutdown needs to go hand in hand with the DPF and SCR deletes?

also in case above cannot be programmed, if EGR block plates are installed can a 2nd computer with stg1 have just a CEL coded out (not the whole EGR shutdown) so its not a nuisance?

There is no way around it in the smog check states. Unless you know a certain someone who can make your car pass the state emission tests.

EGR blanking plates are the way to go, plus some tune to put a smile on your face.

When the time comes for the smog test, take the plates out, drive around at least a week prior to the test so the ECU can reset itself.

Here is my bottom line questions:if I have Renntech or JR flash my car and install the blocking plates, can I get the check engine light coded out, pass CA smog and leave the plates in for good? I assume that I am always going to have to remove the plates. By the way removing my DPF is not in the cards nor is buying a second DDE if I have to remove the plates any way for smog.

Chief I dont beleive so, car is not within SMOG specs once you do the EGR plug and all gizmos. But your car can be programmed to run better w lenny or Jarek but cannot mess w the EGR all this is rigged to work together unless someone has come up w any new ideas

Not to get into a pissing match here but her is my PERSONAL experience with this situation.

Smog in CA for diesel consists of a visual inspection and a computer hookup for code read. As far as I understand it, as long as the systems APPEAR to be there and operating correctly it passes.

On my truck (2007 chevy duramax), which I smogged last month, I have had the EGR blocked since new and run a pretty healthy +160 HP tune on it. I had no issues passing the "test"

Chatting with the tech, he explained its a very simple test.

Does your truck throw a CEL due to the EGR valve block?

No it does not, it has an electronic circuit thats wired in between the EGR and MAF sensor. That fools the system into thinking it is all operating up to snuff. EGR on a diesel is a horrible idea. I want to see these EPA guys running around with a tube running from their assholes to their mouth so they can siphon off their excess fumes....

In that case the ECU thinks everything is OK. With the 335d you cannot do the same thing. So any alteration done to the engine/emission system will give you a code which means automatic fail for the smog check.
