Dinan new products: suspension and flywheel
Did anyone notice Dinan now offers stage 3 suspension kit and a light weight flywheel for the 335?
Would the flywheel really increase acceleration? And is the Stage 3 Suspension worth getting? |

The suspension has its merits, but $2K for a flywheel... wow!

Lightweight flywheels equal less rotational mass meaning quicker accelerations and more hp to the ground.
I had one in my other car and I'll never do it again. Noisy as hell and I got fed up with people asking what was wrong with my car. If you don't care about the chattering noise then it's a noticable change. EDIT I'll take that back because I just looked at the description. http://www.dinancars.com/store/Light...90-p-3880.html Dinan's flywheel is a lighter dual mass flywheel, so the sound probably wouldn't be that loud. I somtimes hear the chattering with the stock flywheel, so this might be a tad bit louder. I don't know if it's worth 2k though.

I wonder what the weight of the dinan FW is compared to the stock one. Does anyone know? In any case, $2k for a flywheel is ridiculous. It should at least include the install, but you get bagged on top of that price by the dealer. They should at least include some KY for when you get to the service desk to pay for the dinan flywheel/install to help ease the pain.

I had a SPEC metal single mass flywheel with a sprung hub clutch. They were saying that the metal flywheel is heavier so the chattering isn't loud.
The springs in the clutch counteract the chattering noise to make it sound just like stock. Was yours single mass or dual mass? Quote:

Or we could just buy an M3.
Dinan has its good pts and bad pts, but the pricing is nuts. By the time you go to the lighter Dinan wheels, level 3 suspension, level 2 flash, intercooler, oil cooler and flywheel you're talking $16K plus installation of another $2-$3K... and our car might then equal an M3? Seriously... that's craziness.

The $2000 flywheel is a bit ridiculous. Unfortunately, it IS the only available aftermarket flywheel at the moment, so if you're that desperate, what choice do you have.
On the other hand, the suspension? Everyone talks about dinan's R&D when comparing it to vishnu, or their history on bmw's etc etc... But the other available suspension options are a whole lot more tested, and lot more proven, and backed by much bigger companies. (KW? and TCK's use of Koni DAs are serious business). I see no advantage of getting dinan suspension when kw's are cheaper and tck's are more tailored.

Well, I don't know if you can technically call it aftermarket since it's just a lightened (I'm guessing they just machine some mass off it?) STOCK flywheel.

I'm pretty sure Dinan just uses Koni struts and shocks and adds anti-roll bars and camber plates if you want. I do think they've probably actually put everything on the car and put it on a track, and have a setup they think is optimized for those who don't want to think about it. Of course, it's not as customized or good as TCK stuff, but it's an option for those who don't want to go to independent shops or worry about warranty.

Isn't every one lb taken off the flywheel equal to about 2hp?

Wow, you're exactly right. Performance Spring Set; 2 Koni Front Struts; 2 Koni Rear Shocks; Matching Bump Stops; Front Antiroll Bar with Two Sets of Bushings; Rear Antiroll Bar; Front Camber Plates That's $2500 for two sway bars, front camber plates, springs, and shocks? Koni yellows front and rear run for a total of $700. H&Rs sway bars are $240, UUC's adjustable sways cost $450, so we take the average of $345. Camber plates go for $330. Your upper echelon springs cost at most $300 (and that's a really exaggerated number). That comes to a grand total of $1675. If that price included install it might be a slightly better buy. But $825 is a ridiculous amount of money, and you cant even say its worth it because of dinan's R&D or warranty. Because most suspension companies warranty their parts, springs dont require serious R&D, and koni made the shocks. $825 is a heck of a lot of money just to get parts put on at the dealer.

Just wait until UUC develops a LTW flywheel for the e9x. I've got an e34 M5 clutch AND a stage 2 flywheel from them for less than a grand. Dinan's prices are just a bit absurd.
