BEWARE: Post your complaints about e92-lighting.com...
I've had it with this dude. I ordered an MTEC HID Fog Kit from him back in June. The left ballast went bad in early December so I sent it back to him to send back to MTEC for repair/replacement. Due to his lack of communication and $hitty customer service, I just received the "new" ballast 2 weeks ago. When I tried installing it, i.e. removing the bumper and all that good stuff, the wiring harnesses did not match up. Here is the email exchange...Read from the bottom up. You WILL NOT believe what he tells me to do to "fix" the issue...No response from this douchebag yet.

This kit was ordered from you on 6/18/2011 and is under order #4822. Here is the background and what I did to troubleshoot... First of all, my car is an 8/06 production date BMW 335i e92 Coupe. I started getting light error codes about 2 months ago but only when the car was first started in the morning. They went away about 3 minutes after the car was started and the fog lights were both on. Now 2 days ago, I got a light fault and the left side fog light flickered about 3 times and went out all together, never to come back on again. So, I took the car apart and switched the fog lights to see if it was a bad bulb. It was not. I suspect the problem is in the ballast or the igniter. Please advise. Jason |

You can't just plug in an HID kit nowadays and expect it to work. Vendors don't really know what they are talking about. They don't physically design or engineer their products, so how do you expect them to know how they work? If they are compatible with a car?
The PWM signal on the halogen fixtures lowers voltage and causes rapid fluctuations. This will kill an HID ballast over time. I've seen the voltage in these cars drop to 7.7v volts in some cases.....that's why some people have kits that don't even turn on. There are 3 things you can do to make an HID kit work on this car: 1) Code the car's PWM duty cycle to 100%. 2) Wire a bosch relay to pull power directly from the battery and triggered from the OEM wiring. 3) Build your own PWM filter. I hear your grief. It sucks. Unfortunately, this is what can happen with aftermarket products if you don't know what you're doing....especially if both parties aren't aware. Not saying all vendors are like this, but most just want to make a sale.... |

I bought my LUX from them once. Transaction went smooth and communication was good. Who knows if they'll last though.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623634 The bosch relay you just connect like the picture below. But for pin 85, you can just tap one of the existing OEM fog light wires. Use a quick tap and connect one of the positive fog light wires to pin 85. Pin 30 can be connected to the jump point under the hood. If you look under the positive jump point and take the cover off, there is a bolt you can unscrew to add a ring terminal. I would fuse this with a 20A fuse like in the picture. Pin 86, just ground to a solid point. Then run the power wires from pin 87 to your ballasts. If you happen to get a 5 pin relay, just ignore the pin 87A. Make sure you mount the relay with the pins facing down. As for the PWM filter, you need make a semi-complex circuit. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are very familiar with electrical circuits. |

While not the case with all vendors...
I've found that 90% of the after market products that vendors on this forum purport to be "great" are utter pieces of garbage. It's a money grab for the vendors selling complete junk, at a premium. Thus far there's only two that I trust (Lux, and Dimisa)

I bought my m3 lip spoiler from him and it went smoothly...sorry youre having trouble. I've had trouble with other vendors and it's frustrating.

@ Alpineweiss or anyone that has the know how to answer my following question. (Also I couldn't message Apline for whatever reason )
Not to hi jack your threat but like I said I couldn't message Alpineweiss. I have a e90 330I with stock HID's. The ballast went out, both of them. Instead of paying 500 buck per ballast I decided to get an aftermarket kit (only 200 bucks) and retro fit it. Once it was complete, everything worked fine for the ONE day. Than the driver side stopped working. Turns out the new ballast is bad too. My question is: Does this have something to do with the PWM? Do I need to recode the car? or was it just a faulty ballast? Thanks and sorry AUbeast86. |

Ah, I didn't know I needed a min. number of post before I am allowed to PM. Understandable. If it means anything I have been a member for a few months and a lurker for even longer than that.
However, my questions still remain unanswered. If anyone could answer them I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. |
