Alpine HIDs for E93?

The only option listed for E93s on their website is for the M3 models. I would assume the E92 options would work but it seems odd to me that E90s and E92s have their own separate options but the E93 is only listed on the M3 options. Any E93 owner have an answer, haven't heard back from the company.

I have a 2009 335i. Thanks all!

Alpine is a one man show- give him some time. That said, HIDs are infernally annoying, and piss off everyone else on the road.

I was between these and the LUX V4s, and the reviews of the V4s seem to be pretty hit or miss. I want good daytime visibility so I figured these were the way to go.

Oh wait they're angels? Honestly the only aftermarket angel eyes I've ever tried were GP thunder halogen H8 bulbs in my 2009 E92, then went right to OSS

I like OSS but I'm not sure the price and opening the headlights are things I'm too comfortable with. Maybe I'm just being overprotective since I just got it a few days ago. Did you do the install yourself or have it done?

Oh no dude I would never do them myself!

Well, the first shop that did them royally fucked them up and caused me a major nightmare that almost cost me my headlights.

Thankfully, another shop that no longer exists now put everything back to OEM, and helped me out to get a second set of OSS lights which were done perfectly by that shop!

I feel like I would want to send them to oss and I can't park the car for a week while that happens. I might be more comfortable doing to Orions myself, but still. Maybe the Alpine kit in 8000k will be alright. Still haven't decided what to do. I had the LUX V4s ordered yesterday but then saw the stroke effect on start up and complaints about day time visibility and cancelled haha.

Garage List
I've had - in order of install, & my impressions:

GPThunderII Halogen
Pros:
  • Available in different K value for color change
  • Super EZ install
  • Cost - cheap
Cons:
  • Waste of $$ no brighter than OEM
  • Distribution no better than OEM

Weisslicht LED
Pros:
  • Slightly brighter than OEM
  • Install not bad
  • Cost - medium
Cons:
  • Bigger waste of $$, their 'patented' wing design no better than OEM for inner/outer distribution
  • One fried out within 3 months

Alpine HID
Pros:
  • Way brighter than OEM look OK in daytime
  • Install not bad
  • Cost - medium
Cons:
  • In fact, too bright - at night they look like big blobs of light & no longer look as if distinctive rings
  • Ballasts kept going bad, had one bad from new

LUX H8v3
Pros:
  • Best so far, noticeably brighter than OEM
  • Still look as distinct separate rings night & day
  • Distribution between inner/outer better than OEM
Cons:
  • I don't care what anyone says - the installation sucks & in no way takes 10min as reported (at least on E92)
  • PS started flickering during operation between 1-1/2 to 2 years then went out entirely
  • Cost - high

DTEC H8 V7 (Current)
Pros:
  • Slightly brighter than even LUX v3's
  • Still look as distinct separate rings night & day
  • Distribution between inner/outer better than OEM
  • Cost - medium
Cons:
  • Install worst so far - even worse than LUX - almost had a stroke putting these in, mostly due to their cumbersome offset heatsink design

Awesome post, thanks a lot. I'm thinking about trying a used LUX V3. They don't have the flickering problem of V4 do they?

Well, my V3's didn't have a flickering problem till 1-1/2 years in to their service when one started flickering all the time, then went out entirely...

You can't buy the V3's new thru LUX anymore AFAIK, they no longer show up on their site

We no longer stock the LUX H8 V3's since the V4's are significantly brighter and do not flicker upon start up at all. They offer 100% brightness all the time as well so they never dim

I'd like to see what you think of our 60W. I'd imagine they are brighter then all the rest so far.

IDK if I could go thru another E92 LED AE install

The LUX were pretty bad, DTEC were unbelievable - mostly due to their offset heatsink which made it xtra hard to align flat with housing & get all tabs in slots at same time, & then the offset greatly hindered my ability to turn them in...

Of course both mfg. state that install is not hard - that may be if you're doing them all day - but I sure don't have the patience - I can barely get 3 fingers in that freakin hole BMW allows.

The DTEC's are supposedly 64W - they look brighter than the LUX v3's (had one side installed to compare) - haven't seen the v4's in person to compare as they are supposed to be brighter than v3

Do you think your 60W are even brighter?

I'm not sure about this whole wattage thing for LED's - I'm guessing it doesn't compare to incandescant bulbs varying wattages?

Jeff - if you come to PA to install the HPB, I'll be more than happy to buy & supply you with all the Corona you can put down

The 60W would likely be evenly matched. Ours are not offset either so installation wise its pretty straight forward like the 40W.

We do have an 80W that I know cannot be matched by anything else. However, if you found the DTEC hard this one is likely just as hard and on the E92 you need to trim down the heat sinks to fit. It also has a fan module to keep them cool.

Bright as hell but not for everyone as far as install goes.

I lived in the Poconos a bit but I don't foresee going over to PA anytime soon, thanks for the offer though.

Way to hate, LOL! I'm nto sure if you've seen the LUX H8 V4 lights in person, but beleive me you can definitely see them in the daytime.

for 1QuikWS6 - Most of the time when a product is rated in terms of "W" its a comparison to the output from a stock halogen bulb. For example, if a LED bulb is called 35W then according to this comparison it will be just as bright as a stock 35w h8 angel eye bulb. Our LUX H8 V4 lights would be about a 43 watt equivalence per side making it a total of 86 watt equivalent for both sides

I disagree, and this is my opinion
I saw tons of LED angels and they all shine like a cheap flashlight

Mtech LUX and so..

all or nothing OEM or HID
and Alpine the first who did it .. and I love it

I often hear that my angels eyes were very bright, but that is exactly what I wanted and I'm satisfied with this product
