Lease End: What would you do?
My 2009 335i e90 lease is coming to an end, after 42 months.
Here is the details: 335i Le Mans Blue Sedan M-Sport Paddle shifter Auto I-Drive Audiophile Package Lumbar BMW Performance Exhaust JB4 + DCI Tinted Window + set of Winter Tires The car has 42,000 KM, and is in mint condition inside and out. It had been detailed twice a year by Kevin. The HPFP was replaced at around 16,000KM through the recall warranty. Other than that, the car has been problem free. The buyback for the is $26,800. My dilemma is if I should return the car and get something else, or buyback the car and keep it driving it, or buyback the car and sell privately, and get something else. In the past, I have been getting a new car every 3-4 years, since I get bored with my car pretty fast. This one, I am still fairly happy with. And I have not been excited by any new cars that are within my budget. If I just return the car, I'll probably just step into a new lease for another 335. |

How much do you like this one? At that amount of KM's I'd say just return it for something newer.

Can you handle the uncertainty of an out of warranty car?

If you decide to keep it, maybe inquire about extended warranty (expensive). Also factor in slightly increased maintenance costs.
The car will probably depreciate a little faster since the F30 is out. It might not be advantageous to sell it privately. I extended the lease on my A4, did a 3 year and then another 3. After six years, I was pretty tired of the car and was ready for a new model. Sell your parts and use it towards a new vehicle?

If you are just going to get another 335i I would just keep your car (you owned it since day 1, maintained it/detailed it so unless you are enamored with the idea of getting a new 3 series (maybe for DCT or some other random reason then by all means) I don't see the point.
If I were you I would keep the 335 and just ensure you keep up with maintenance. Everyone is quick to bash the reliability of the 335 out of warranty but it's really not that different from the 328 beyond turbos. The wastegates are problematic on early models (which doesn't affect you since you have an 09). HPFP warranty was extended for all of us in Canada as you know so I would just keep it! I genuinely cannot think of a car out there for the price of the 335i that I would trade mine for. Best of luck with your decision. |

To further complicate this, I just took part in the BMW 3 series comparison drive event this morning. (They really did a great job this time around, there was 2 tracks, a slalom for the 328i xDrive compared to the MB C300 and A4), then more of a wide performance track for the 335i compared to the G37x and TL. After the event, we got into a 335i with the instructor as the driver, and he really hit it hard on the track...Fun...)
This time driving the 335i, I really feel it would be an upgrade. Just the performance and the interior is much better... I also got $500 voucher towards a lease/purchase, and no cost wear & tear insurance. Then, another factor, I am Super elite with Air Canada, and was given a BMW/Air Canada Ultimate Drive promotion: http://aircanada.partnerbmw.ca/ I got an Ipod Touch for test drive, and if I buy/lease a bmw, I get to choose one of four 'Ultimate Experience'....They include: 1)Trip for 2 to NYC, 2) trip for 2 to Whistler, 3) Sports package(golf set/bike) 4) Entertainment set i probably would value them to be around $3000. Decisions decisions.... Also...How much would it cost to take out my Performance Exhaust and put back the OEM? and where should I do it cheapest, RMP? what is the market value of a used PE? |

One of the biggest unspoken advantage lease has over purchase is that you get to drive a NEW car every 3 years or so. With all the extra perks you getting I would just get into a new BMW lease. Get covered worry free for another 3 years in a brand new improved vehicle!

Yup, of course the downfall of leasing is that you will be paying FOREVER, as long as you are driving. While a person who paid the entire car (either cash or financing) will have a car to drive without paying anymore, except for maintenance.
Bottom line is whatever fits your lifestyle & needs. Go for it. |

I did exercise the buy-back option on the 2009 E90, which my sister eventually took it. Then I ended up getting the 2013 F30 335i in Estoril Blue. |
