New transfer case, needs to be broken in?
Car is getting a brand new transfer case on today. My question is does it need to be broken in? If so, for how many miles?
Thanks

I don't know if there is technical data on this. Maybe an engineer can offer advice. I would take it easy and gradually increase required workload to break it in to the power level you desire for it to operate at.
Is there any way for you to take home the unit being replaced for learning, pictures and documentation? As you already know, we're trying to come up with a "built" TC solution and this could be timely and perhaps put to good use. |

Dealer didn't want me to keep the tranfer case as it had to go to bmw. They think it would be the worm gear which would be torn down. Unfortunately, I can't say more as I don't know...
Here is the story about what happened to the tc : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749059

to me feels like these cars are made of paper. there is always something crapping out. can they just work for a short time without any warning light, error message, leak here, rattle there crap?

the stress on the universal joints in the driveshafts is probably worse. crappy part is they dont sell universal joints for the front driveshaft. i had a heart attack when the the dealer told me how much it was for the part alone.

not gonna lie i bought one from a local salvage yard off a car with 10k for $100. IMO the AWD is what makes this car. i bought mine from a guy who thought he had a bad transfercase and drove it in 2wd for the first few weeks i had it until i could afford the transfercase motor. and i must say the car was horrible in the rain even with out it.

A factory rwd 335 will behave way better than an awd 335 with the awd fuse out so it can be rwd. Just not the same front/rear weight distribution, not the same suspension settings, etc, its not made to be rwd, its made to be awd.
But awd is great, I love mine. I would just like to see some type of solution for people with big hp numbers. And then go rb's...
