Shon,

Road trips are great, and they represent an excellent opportunity to actually use our exceptional cars in the way that BMW intended. I eagerly look forward to every trip.

When you get out there for your own road trip, let us know where you went!

e92stance,

If you have a GPS that can accept routes, let me know. I'd be glad to send you a gpx file with the routes and points of interest for any of my trips.

positiveions,

You're quite welcome. I learn a lot about the places I've visited while writing up the reports, and finding historical photos, interesting facts, etc. is a lot of fun.

Pure,

Hey, I'm very glad you enjoyed it! The Mid-Atlantic is a great area to tour. And despite 10 years worth of touring, I'm nowhere near running out of destinations.

PS: How about some photos from Germany? I've enjoyed touring there a couple of times, and I'd love to see some of your favorite spots!

warmtoes,

The West Coast has some outstanding scenery and many fascinating places, such as the Hearst Castle--but not as much history as the East Coast.

On the other hand, California is (still) home to more car aficionados per square mile than anyplace else in the country!

Bruce,

As you say, it's a great area. Regarding Bedford Springs, be sure to check out Sometimes They Come Back To Life. The interior swimming pool at the Bedford Springs Resort is one of my favorite places anywhere!

To encourage you to check out this report, here is my favorite photo from the tour: the most excellent Nittany Lion, of course!

Happy touring,

SouthernBoy,

I've hiked small sections of the Appalachian Trail here and there, and it's no walk in the park. More power to the hikers I met on that day; I hope they're closing in on the finish!

With that being said. What camera and lenses did you use ? The pics are gorgeous.
dbudh001,

The only really scary place was that schoolhouse with the creepy students and teacher!

As for the camera, I use a Canon SX40 IS "super zoom." It has all the features I need, although I'd like a larger sensor for improved detail.

Wow, small world!

Here's a question for you: I often seem to be passing through Sharpsburg right around lunch time, and there never seems to be any place to eat. Got any recommendations?

I'm not from Sharpsburg, but try Captain Bender's Tavern for a great burger and a cold Natty Boh. http://captainbenders.com/

Well, as someone already mentioned there is benders, which is supposed to be fairly good. The only other place I can think of would be Ge Ge's pizza. It is down past BP gas station near the pond. I have never eaten there, so I cannot attest to its quality. On the other hand, if you ever end up coming through Sharpsburg after lunch I would definitely try to hit up Burkholder's. This is a great little bakery with awesome donuts, that will be sure to pull you back again. It is located near Harpor's Ferry Road near the edge of town. Good luck!

Rick, yes, the west coast is a car guys paradise because we don't have to worry about winter as much and rusting out.

Good note about Hearst Castle. Heading to SFO soon but I think it's too far a drive for the family this time around.
