A+, would read again.

that was a refreshing change of pace for this site. Do you have a blog or some other page where you have more of these photo collections?

LJ35,

Excellent! There are some pretty good ones in there, if I do say so myself… :roll eyes: What's most fun is when I run across a mystery, such as a Civil War private writing something on the wall of an old building, and then try to track down who the person was. This particular example led me to a fascinating story about the time that Abraham Lincoln was challenged to a duel by a fellow lawyer in Springfield, Illinois—and accepted! He chose broadswords, not realizing that his challenger was an ace sword fighter. (Check out In Pursuit of the Grey Ghost.)

DOMs335D,

Thanks much! I'm actually using a Canon SX40 IS "superzoom" digital camera (not an SLR). I'd like the extra sharpness of an SLR, but the SX40 gives me a zoom range of 24mm to 840mm without having to change lenses, which is really convenient. It also takes excellent HD videos.

I like the color combination of my car, too. I tell my friends that I purposely bought a 335i in the same color as my prior Z4 (Black Sapphire Metallic) so that I wouldn't have to buy new touch-up paint…

ABB,

Thanks much--I enjoy writing up the reports and sharing them, and it's always great to hear that others enjoy them. Per earlier posts, I'm using a Canon SX40 IS digital camera. I think there's a later / upgraded version of it available now. It's very versatile, and not terribly expensive.

Rookie,

I've really enjoyed the 335i since I bought it. I had a 2006 Z4 3.0i for the last 5 years, which was a great car but a lot less practical for me than the 335i.

I recently had a chance to test the 335i on the infamous "Tail of the Dragon" and other roads in Tennessee and North Carolina. It did not disappoint!

mike-y,

Aw shucks… I'm really glad you enjoyed the report.

If you'd like to see more of them (many more, as it happens), you can either:
  1. Do an advanced search for posts started by "Rick F."; or
  2. Click on The Whole Shebang, which has a list of all of them from the last 9 years or so.

These reports also make a good antidote for sleeping problems, just saying'…

Kyddo,

Hurray--someone made it through the whole thing!

Just kidding; I'm glad that you enjoyed it. And you're right: the Mid-Atlantic area has an incredible amount of history. Some of it is right out there "in the open" for everyone to see, such as Fort McHenry in Baltimore or Ford's Theatre in Washington. Many other aspects require some searching, but it seems like almost every square mile around here has an interesting story.
