I finally got it done last Sunday, and threw together a really quick clip. Excuse my dirty car. I'm pretty satisfied with it so far, this is stock downpipes.

Is that just the internal silencer removed? If so that sounds pretty good.

I know people aren't going to like me for this, but most of these mods make the car sound like a 4cyl with a dynomax muffler.

I had a 4cyl Neon, put a 20 dollar summit racing muffler on it and it made it sound much deeper then a raspy 4 with a muffler. I might be the first to put summit racing mufflers on a BMW unless someone already has. In which case can you post a clip of that?

Did the mod on the front page, cut out perforated pipe and welded solid pipe and put 50/50 packing in both sides. Odd thing about my exhaust was that both sides had a canister and no packing whereas it's supposed to be canister on one side and perforated pipe on the other side. Definitely odd.

is stainless steel pipe needed for the straight sections of pipe? or can i just use regular 2.5" exhaust tubing and spray it down with some high temp header paint?

Isn't replacing the pipe inside the muffler the same as doing a muffler delete?

No. If you stick with the guide and leave the 2 connecting perforated pipes alone it will sound like the PE exhaust. If you replace all 4 pipes with straight pipes it'll sound loud and you'll get annoying highway drone. Probably close to a muffler delete. Trust me on this I did both ways.

Hello all just about to get my exhaust put back in, I removed the packaging off the passenger side of the car and replaced both pipes. I had muffler delete before doing this and wanted to see how it'd be with the PE mod w/o the packaging. Currently only have jb4, dci, and the x-pipe in. I will hopefully be getting vrsf careless downpipes soon.

Found a place pretty close to me here in NW Las Vegas that does these pretty frequently, I'm only looking for a mild increase in exhaust sound so I'm thinkin straight pipe for the outer perforated pipe and leave maybe 50% insulation...

You're not touching your cats at all, just a bit more sound out of the mufflers, so unless you're in some violation of a decibel law, assuming you're over it with these, which I doubt, why would it be illegal?

X-pipes are illegal here you can't touch the midpipe.
