235/35/19 & 265/30/19 - will it work? I had issues with 225/35/19

Hello All,

Essentially, I purchased a set of Hankook Venus V12 EVO K110 from TireRack. After speaking with TireRack and forum members I went with a 225/35/19 & 265/30/19 - this was based on TireRacks recommendation at the time and if you look at the table the specs between the 225/35 & 265/30 are VERY CLOSE.

That said, I installed the tires and almost immediately had issues. There would be a binding sensation when making slow turns - where the car would jerk. Also on acceleration it almost felt like a transmission slip. So I took the wheels/tires off and the issue went away.

I then called TireRack and now they said I need a 235/35/19 & 265/30/19 tire. So they just shipped out two new 235/35/19 tires which should arrive today. Before I install them I want to make sure that they will work - hence this post.

From what I read they should work - but so should the 225's based on Rolling Diameter and RPMs. But if you look at the table below the specs of the 225/265 are closer than the 235/265 so it has me concerned.

Any thoughts?

235/35 - 19s will work great. Rest assured.

keep us updated! This is good info for future reference. I'm glad tire rack will be sending you the correct sizes free of charge!

I believe gtaccord is correct when he mentioned on the other thread that the front diameter should be not be smaller by any amount. Maybe that's why you were having issues with the 225/265 setup.

Thanks - that is the only thing I noticed, is that while the diameter difference was smaller between the [225/35 | 265/30] than the [235/35 | 265/30] the difference was the 225 had less of an overall diameter than then 265. Where the 235 has a larger overall diameter than the 265.

If that is another 'factor' which we have to take into account perhaps we can sticky a new thread with all the requirements; as it is more than just ensuring you are within 1% rolling diameter - your fronts have to be equal to no-more-than 1% larger in diameter and no variance lower in diameter for the front tires is acceptable.

TireRack was super friendly and helpful - so I was happy. It was some out of pocket expense ($14 + Shipping Of New Tires + Unmount/Mount Of Tires) but I would rather pay that then have 2 tires I can't use

ive been running on 225/35/19 and 265/30/19 without any issues at all on a 2009 328Xi coupe..

not sure why you had an issue with 225..?

I just had the same issue when I put on 235/30/19 and 265/35/19 (M220 rims) on my E91 (Wagon).
I was going to find some 225/35 but now I am not sure.....

If you have a 35 on the rear I believe you will need a 40 on the front, not a 35.

i've had no issues running all of these, for extended periods of time:

225/35 and 265/30
225/35 and 255/30
235/35 and 265/30

That makes sense because the fronts are smaller than the rear. You need to reverse the middle numbers. You should run 235/35 and 265/30 19s.

i ran 225/35/19 and 265/30/19 on 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 now i run the same tires(hankook ventus as well) on 19x9 and 19x10 and have zero issues, at stock height or dropped on tein springs
