this is awesome! waaay too much work though! I imagine your car is out of commission for quite awhile to complete this! Why not widebody on the front fenders while youre at it? What color do you plan on going with?

I think it would be a lot cheaper to just go buy a used M3...The body modification + all the usual mods I'm sure he is throwing in, this thing should easily outprice an E9X M3.

Edit: Plus a MANUAL TRANSMISSION CONVERSION?!? How much does that cost? Why not just buy a manual 335i to begin with?

You're 110% correct, the expense is completely ridiculous. The only thing is, I never really wanted an m3. I nearly bought a used m3 after trading in my supercharged range rover sport, and decided to go back into a 335i, which is what I had before I sold for the range rover.

I honestly didn't like the power band I felt when driving a manual m3. The only way I would do an m3 is with an ESS supercharged kit, and I felt the fuel economy of the v8 was a bit too thirsty. Also, I love doing projects. This was obviously not entirely sensible.

Used to own a manual 335i. Always loved it. Not sure why I sold it. Here's another piece of impracticality for you: my old 335i was manual, but didn't have many options on it. When I sold the range rover, I bought this 335i with far more options, but sacrificed for the auto as my wife wanted to be able to drive, although she never drives my car...she doesn't find it very comfortable, we just bought her a lexus gs450 hybrid (super comfy, all optioned out).

Decided I wanted to get back into a manual as I no longer have a long commute, and I just missed the three pedal action.

I have owned a few wheel sets:

Stock sport
CSL reps
Morr VS8.2
MM8 LM reps (far less aggressive than the current varrstoens i have)

I have to say, the Varrstoen ES1 are 9.50" wide in front, and 11.00" wide in back, and I have always felt the LM look is classic sport. The deepness of the lip and barrel are what really get me.

Until today, you see LM style wheels on LeMans cars, VW Wolfsburg editions, Mini coopers, Porsches. Most of my friends hate these wheels too, so you're not alone. For some reason, I love them. Have thought of BBS FI, and then there are those new M6 Gran coupe wheels that I like, and I also like LM-R style wheels....

For now, I am happy with the aggressive and wide look of the Varrstoens.

Totally agree. I am just saying I wish they weren't reps, especially after having put so much money into your car. Why go cheap on wheels..?

Again, very nice work looking forward to seeing it finished.

Yeah, Manual transmission is nice. I have diesel with manual which is quite rare. Most diesels here are automatic. I like those wheels.

Below are pics of the body being wet sanded after paint. Bob is meticulous about wet sanding and buffing. Starting to come together a bit.
I think I'm going to keep the spacer setup this way: 15mm up front, and 20mm in back.
