320d Auto Box (E90)

Hi all

I have a 2010 320d auto (50k miles) and I'm wondering what's normal in regard to smoothness of the gearbox. When cold, the gear changes in the low gears, particularly 2-4 can be a bit rough / slight jolt. Nothing major but irritating. However, once the box warms up, the lower gear changes are perceptible but much better and generally smooth whilst the higher gears generally change almost imperceptibly.

Is this normal or should it be imperceptibly smooth across the gear range and irrespective of running time? What's yours like?

Best

It should be really smooth. Have you considered having the gearbox oil changed by a good independent as many people say this cures a lot of issues with rough changes.

Thanks. I've only just bought the car so going to try to get dealer to sort it - have also contacted some auto box specialists.
