Quite common because a lot of people end up shorting out the aerial by accident. If you look at the side of the phone, near the bottom left corner as you look at the phone, there is a black line. That is the aerial. If your hand or finger touches that black line, or joins the metal of the case around the line together, you short out the aerial and lose signal.

Keep your fingers/hand away from that black line and you'll be fine

Buy an iPhone 4S and then you'll get two more lines at the top of the phone. Think what would could do with 4 lines Carl!!

This means the later phone has two antenna's and therefore fixes the problem of calls dropping out on the original iPhone 4. Dunno who sold you that phone....they done you over

Carl....it's gonna cost you a fortune to change now....you're not long into your 4 contract so you either buy a new 4S outright (mega money) or take out a 2nd contract.

I recommend you stick the cover back on your 4, enjoy it and then get the new 5 which will be out later this year at which point you'll be closer to the end of your current contract. Whilst the 4 is really very good, it's not that good or significantly different enough to warrant you spending all that money extra.

This was the reason for the iphone4 bumper supplied by apple, kept fingers away from this area.

I'm waiting for the iPh5, will be well out of contract by then. Will do it through you Andrew

I think it was only given to those who bought on release before they were aware of the problem.

I assumed when I got mine a long time after release the problem had been fixed. I had not and I didn't get a case either.

This is where I'm at/what I'm doing.

Can't wait for 4G phones (not that I'm expecting the ip5 to be).

Apple bumper does fix the problem for iPhone 4 users, but at £26 it's a rip off, plenty of other options on eBay

Can confirm the problems been fixed on the 4S, which is also so much quicker than the 4

Interestingly, most people were saying the problem with dropped calls only affected those that used the phone in the left hand...?
