Is it possible to play DVD while driving?

Dumb question.

Has anyone tried to hack i-drive to have DVD movie stay on while driving?

I'm not trying to watch a movie while driving but I would like to have my gf watch a movie while we are on the road trip.

Thanks.

Although it might be possible...You'd need the software to do it and then you'd have to modify the hardware. Not worth it at all and void the electronics part of your warranty. Just buy a cheap DVD player..They're only like 100 bucks

If you figure it out, please don't tell anyone else how.

There are already too many dumb distracted drivers who never learned how to drive in the first place on our roads.

Yes, it plays DVD in parking mode through i-drive.
But as soon as I throw 1st gear, screen goes black with sound still playing.

Tell her there is a great movie on the huge screen to her immediate right. It's called "watching the world go by".

Wow...this is a VERY OLD topic. But here ya go.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=nav2go

This is the only way I have seen it done. I have it, and my only gripe was that the unit burned out on me after 13 months of use. Then I had a hell of a time getting a new one from the vendor, but in the end after more money, and tons of e-mails they replaced it. Was it worth it....yes for now, because it works. But the next time my unit burns out....I probably will not get another one.

A vendor on here has been talking about a new way to get video and tv to work. Apparently the are "close" to getting it done. I am not holding my breath. Their thread has been going on since April or so.

There were also a couple of guys that hooked it up to a mac mini instead of DVD player.

I have also seen PS2 slim attached to the unit once installed.

I'm not sure about 2008 models, but in the 2009 models the new iDrive can play DVD movies as long as the E-Brake is engaged. No modding required. It is a STANDARD feature. But, when the E-Brake is let down, the DVD movie will still be playing and the audio is still playing as well. It just stops the video.

I'm sure you dont need a software to play the DVD while driving. I believe it should be as simple as removing the censor that is attached to the E-Brake, so when you let off the E-Brake it doesnt trigger the censor that blocks the DVD video output.

well....not sure about 09 models, as things do change. But with your explanation, it sounds like there should be a work around it. Someone just needs to have the guts to pull it apart and see what is going on in there.

Also, isn't it illegal in some states to have moving video showing while you're moving?

Doesnt the idrive play audio dvd's without turning off the screen?

Is it possible to encode or make a custom dvd with video, but have the iDrive think its an audio dvd only? Guess thats not possible.

I tried playing a dvd in my idrive dvd, but it does not play anything. i tryed to mess around in the settings and in navi bit couldnt find anything. I have an 08 by the way, is it only 09 that lets you play while ebrake is up? this is would be sweeet if i can do it since i often times find myself waiting for my gf to get ready and come down -_-

I think it's only 09s man. I just tried it too lol. But I guess drifters can watch DVDs all the time if the e-brake has to be up. They can watch clips of the movie for like 3-5 seconds
