annoying squeeking brakes /330i
friends, i have a serious problem with my E90 330i.
there is a squeeking sound from the brakes which is occuring most of the time and it comes when the car is moving on a slow speed, and when u press brakes it goes, this is driving me crazy, although i know that squeeking noise must come when u press brakes not vice versa. i took it to the dealer and this sound does not come all the time, so till now they couldnt hear it:mad: did any body face this problem? |

same thing happens to me all the time. problem usually is that the brake pads get "glazed" as it is called in racing, when the friction surface of the braking pad becomes slippery and causes squeaking. to fix this, just go around and brake very hard on an empty street a few times, and it should go away, if not go to discount auto parts and buy some brake cleaner and sqirt it onto the disc and calipers, the brake cleaner MUST clean the braking surfaces, so do not be afraid that squirting BRAKE CLEANER on the braking parts would make you lose your brakes or something.

yeah you might need to rebed the brakes which is something you do to new brakes so that the pads and rotors contact correctly. failiure to bed brakes can cause squeaking, other causes can be loose caliper bolts / calipersprings.
The squeaking is actually caused by vibrations between the rotor and caliper, but likely you just need to rebed your brakes. |

Same problem
I have the same problem. I *often* get the squeaking at low speeds, but not every time. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't confirm the noise (of course!).

I had an identical problem on my old Audi Quattro.
The cure was to remove the pads from the calipers and to lightly coat the back of the pads with Coppertone (hi-temp) grease, obviously being careful not to lash it about to liberally. Then carefully re-install them. Drama free after that. HKG is correct it is to do with vibrations between rotor / pads / pad springs.

brakes squell
For some reason some brakes squell more than others. Don't use grease as it
may get on the rotors and then you have a big problem. Go to your favorite auto parts dealer and get the compound made for this. You have to remove the caliper and apply the compound to the back side of the brake pad. It is the interaction of the pad with its backing that causes the noise. This will stop it. If per chance it does not then change out the pads. |

I had to have my rear brakes replaced!!!!
After the car warmed up from hard driving the brakes would touch the pad and squeak louder and louder, you could only hear at low speeds. TERRIBLE!!!! I had them replaced as a "goodwill" gesture... which is BS b/c my car was only 9 months old. There have been probs with the brakes so watch out! |

I have the same problem with squeeking brakes on my E90. I have approx 16000 kms, and I'm bringing the car in next week.
Will they clean my brakes under warranty?? Will they fix the problem if they don't hear the squeek? My handbrake also squeeks when I get out of the vehicle and they told me that it's normal....but it's becoming very annoying! Last edited by FNV; 12-31-2006 at 08:12 PM.. |
