My Sirius Sucks

I am on a road trip and my Sirius reception is horrible. Just had it installed last Monday and left the following day. The service has been getting worse by the minute.
The first night I had it in L.A. I experienced a couple of drop outs but didn't think too much of it. The next day while driving up the 101 the service would drop out more and more until I couldn't listen to a song without two or three drop outs. Now all I see is "acquiring" on my radio display with brief spats of music.
I called BMW and have an appointment on the 28th after I get home. I couldn't wait to listen to this thing on the road and I guess I will wait some more.
BTW, BMW called for the 1-5 rating last night on my service. I gave them a 1.

Ward, you live in California just like I do. Once a minute or more while driving on the freeway? Would you shrug this off to trees or buildings?

BTW, I said nice things about the guy, even gave him a five. Now the work done got a 1. Obviously the antenna wasn't connected properly. I called a few friends with Sirius and none of them experience anything like this.

I know there's a ton more overpasses down south,

once a min is completely unacceptable, I agree with you there.

mine does cut out in certain spots (pretty dependable, I know when it'll cut out, like under most bridges and overpasses if I don't get through them fast.

Glad to see you didn't give them all 1's, the radio should work better than that but you do need to send a message about the work.

check out 108 maxim radio, covino and rich in the morning are friggin hillarious

Feliz Knobby Job everybody!!

Not on the 101 heading north. In fact my next stop is Walnut Creek, close to your neck of the woods. How does it work for you?

The quality sucks once you get it working so you're not really missing much.

I personally am not gonna reorder sirius. I think its pretty lame. The only time i use it is to listen to sports games. But other than that, i have the Nano. Plus the sat is always going out.. Going under bridges, going by the beach, entering my garage.. blah!

This is really discouraging about the Sirius. Then again, I'm not too happy with the current selection of stations on FM, and AM sound quality is always poor.

I am in the DC/Maryland area. I enjoy the sirius. It does cut out occasionally but it is satellite based and like and metro area you have obstructions. On a long trip to rural South Carolina, it performed very well-not many overpasses or obstructions along the way.

I know your not a dick Ward, I'm just frustrated with this thing. I drove all the way from L.A. to Monterey, through the bay area, and then north to Ukiah. I can't even listen to the thing now. I constantly get "acquiring" on the display and I may hear a beat or two of music every now and then. I haven't been able to listen to a whole song since the first day I got it.

The sunshade and Sirius are the lamest options I have on my car. I should have got tinted windows and active steering instead.

Update,

I took my car in to get the Sirius checked out but there is a problem. Now that I am back in L.A. it works. It didn't work all the way up the 101 freeway past Ventura through the Bay Area and back down the 5. When I got closer to L.A it started working again. I explained the problem to the service guy but he seemed confused.
How will I know if they even tried to fix it if I can't duplicate the problem? I'm picking up the car later on today, I'll hope for the best.

Well and got my car back and they were not able to fix anything. They do not know what the problem is but have had one other case of the exact same thing just a couple of days ago at the same dealership. The other guy also can't get his Sirius to work outside of the Metropolitan area. A report has been filed with BMWNA and BMW of Santa Monica is waiting for a call back instructing them as to what they need to do.
I calmly told my service advisor that if a fix is not found in two days I will be coming down for a full refund.

antenna is in the shark fin,

I just took my car down the 101 to san luis obispo and it worked fine the whole time. It also works fine in the san jose area, san ramon area.....

there are certain spots where it will always cut out but it's brief (some spots are clear above too, no trees or anything)

sirius uses land based and sat based transmitters so maybe your sat signal is not being read..........

sirius kicks XM's butt in programming, but XM definetly has a stronger signal

hope they fix it!

That what the service guy said. The problem is that they can't fix it until BMWNA tells them what to do. If I don't get a phone call by tomorrow I am going down there to demand a full refund. I doubt they will call (they never do) so I will probably be demanding the refund. It's a shame since I like Sirius but paying $900 for a satellite radio that only works in major cities is ri-god damn-diculous.

I live in the sticks--Columbus, Mississippi. My roommate has SIRIUS and has never had a problem with signal.
