Well the lever only goes in 1 of 2 ways. If it doesn't work 1 way, then flip it. Are you saying that it has problems when put in both ways?

I've only installed it one time. I assumed it was right only because of the other member who had the opposite problem with 2nd, 4th and 6th.

I just ordered the BMW E90/91/92/93 3 Series 'M' Perforated Leather Shift Knob/Boot and E-Brake Handle Kit from Tischer BMW. (Item Number: PKE90KNOBBRAKE)
I also want the Short Shifter Kit but don't need the Alcantara Shift Boot or the Alcantara Shift Knob that comes with the SSK. I want to use the "M" Perforated Leather Shift Knob/Boot and still have a short shifter. Based on e90post.com, these are the parts I need for a short shifter without buying the entire SSK. Part Number: 25 11 0434219 - Shift Lever (aka short shift lever) $66 25 11 1220600 - Bearing Shift Lever $6.48 (Part number 25111220600 was superseded by part number 25111469397) 25 11 1220379 - Circlip $0.54 Part number 25111220379 was superseded by part number 25117571899. Are these the exact same parts that is included in the SSK (Short Shifter Kit) minus the Alcantara Shift Knob and Alcantara Shift Boot? Do I need to order anything else to have the same SSK if I use the "M" Perforated Shift Knob and boot that I just ordered. Thanks, Mike Nguyen |

This IS what I just did a week ago, what you are describing. The kit and I got the M perforated leather. Check the link, your part numbers are not right forthe real 335i SSK. I think you have the parts for the 330i short lever, but that's not the real OEM SSK. The big difference is the Shift Arm, check the link and PM me if you have questions as I just did what you want to do. Only thing is that I don't think they sale the SSK alone, I got from a forum member used. Good luck! |

Just looked up my vehicle (e90 335i - Sedan) Looks like I just need the parts listed in red. 02 Performance shift knob 6-GANG 1 25110429269 $114.95 See PIZ sz_040_02_08 03 Boot for Performance shift knob ALCANTARA 1 25110435847 $53.50 See PIZ sz_040_02_08 04 Bearing, shift lever 1 25111220600 $10.33 05 Shift lever 1 25110434217 $109.95 +core 06 Circlip 1 25111220379 ENDED 07 SHIFTING ARM 1 25110434218 $254.95 +core If not - I guess I can just purchase the whole kit for $195 + $185 more for the 335i = $375 from Tischer and then sell the shift knob and boot that comes with it seperately. |

After reviewing all the DIY for this SSK - looks like no one has replaced the "SHIFTING ARM" - Part #1 25110434218 $254.95 +core that is included in the e90 335i short shifter kit.
Is this part a Pain in the @ss to replace? This may be the one reason I'm just going to get the "M" Perforated Shift Knob and call it a day. Anyone installed the "true" ssk for the 335i and if so - you was it to install this extra part? (07 SHIFTING ARM 1 25110434218 $254.95 +core). Thanks, Mike |

As I said in my earlier post, I installed the "true" BMW OEM SSK in my 335i INCLUDING the Shift Arm. It was a pain to replace it because there's not much room to work in there. The shift arm lies over the driveshaft so you have to work around it. You also have to bend the heat shield further back in order to be able to take it out. If you have worked on your car before, go for it, at least check it out. Taking the previous shift arm out is the difficult part, putting in the new shift arm in is a lot easier. If I where you I'll jack the car up and take out the plastic panel and check out the assembly for myself. You'll get an idea of how much room you have under the car and how the shift arm is held in place. If you decide to do this or buy the kit and do it yourself send me a PM and I'll help you out/give you a couple of pointers/tips so you know what to look for. Another forum member, dtp3347, gave me some pointers and what to look for and this helped me out immensely. If you are unable to do it after trying it out have an independent shop do it. Good luck! |

I was just quoted $200 to install this kit including the Shift Arm (BMW CPO Tech doing some side-jobs). I usually do everything myself but don't want this to be an excuse to void my CPO warranty. Since it will be done by the CPO technician - I should not have to worry about any warranty issues. Right? |

Well, there isn't really much room for error, meaning that once the part snaps in place it's in place and things won't break down, it's just a link. I did it myself and I have warranty... It's also a BMW OEM part, different than installing the UUC shift kit or any other aftermarket brand. Visually it's also not easy to see that the parts are different (standard vs. SSK) unless it's disassembled and placed side to side. They look the same.
If you are having a CPO technician doing it on the side you might as well do it yourself, if he does it you won't have proof that it was done "officially" by BMW which is what you wanted in the first place with the CPO tech, right? |

Good thing I have everything documented in email and text saved for future reference. For $200 labor I just might have him take care of it. As an added bonus, My the Sales Guy will probably fill my tank for free ($50 right there) and I can spend the 2hrs test driving some cars while I wait. |

Well - I did it. Actually the CPO Tech at BMW did it. Got my BMW SSK installed. At first I didn't like how it leans to the right when in neutral. I thought it only leans a little but this thing is about 1" to the right (Where 3rd gear would be but in the center).
So far so good - I love the short throws - will just have to get use to how neutral sits. One thing that I notice. Going from 6th to 4th is now even easier. Will drive it for a few days and report back. (I had the whole kit installed including the Shifting Arm for the 335i) |

That's exactly why I like to work on my car myself if possible. Your mechanic installed the shift lever incorrectly, mine is completely centered in the middle for neutral. You need to go back and tell him to turn around 180 the shift lever. This one is easy and if you want you can do it on your own. Good luck!

Look at page 5 - Comment #103 by Tritton and comment on #101. My setup is exactly like his. I really appreciate any help. "Is this the way it's suppose to be? 1st is now where thrid use to be and 2nd is where 4th use to be." Is this correct? or did they install it backwards? Here's how mine sits: Neutral = Where 3rd gear use to be in the center 1st gear = Where Neutral use to be but up front 2nd gear = Where Neutral use to be but down bottom 3rd gear = Where 5th gear use to be 4th gear = Where 6th gear use to be 5th gear = All the way to the right up front 6th gear = All the way to the right down bottom Last edited by LKNGOOD; 03-20-2010 at 11:03 PM.. |

Ok - I just took off the boot and mine is also completely centered in the middle for neutral - vertically (Up and Down). That never was an issue. My question is that now neutral sits dead in the middle -vertically (Up and Down) but horizontally it's about an inch or so to the right. I know the new lever does not have that bent on it compared to the stock lever which is what makes it sit center horizontally (left to right). This is how it look stock in neutral (X is the lever position in neutral) Dead center both vertically and horizontally: PLEASE IGNORE THE DOTS (.....) I had to put those in there to make everything center?? .....l .....l ----X---- .....l .....l 1st - 6th gear with stock lever: ..1..3..5 .....l ----X---- .....l ..2..4..6 ** This is how it now looks with the BMW SSK installed (X is the lever position in neutral) Dead center vertically but to the right horizontally: ......l ......l -------X------- ......l ......l So in first gear it looks like this: ......l .....1st ......l -------X------- ......l ......l So in 2nd gear it looks like this: ......l ......l ......l -------X------- ......l .....2nd ......l So in 3rd gear it looks like this: ......l..3rd ......l -------X------- ......l ......l So in 4th gear it looks like this: ......l ......l -------X------- ......l ......l..4th So in 5th gear it looks like this: ......l.......5th ......l -------X------- ......l ......l So in 6th gear it looks like this: ......l ......l -------X------- ......l ......l.......6th Hope the drawing helps (Remember - just ignore the ... I had to put those in there to make everything align correctly) - From the replys that I got on this forum and other forums - I'm fine - it's suppose to be that way because we no longer have the bend on the new shifting lever. * Castel - you said your lever is completely center when in neutral. That's vertically (Up and Down) - but how is it horizontally? Is it still the same as stock or is it about 1-2" to the right? Thanks everyone for their help - please keep the reply coming - this will not only benefit me but anyone else that wants to do this mod. Thanks, Mike Last edited by LKNGOOD; 03-21-2010 at 03:24 PM.. |
