Put my 335i throught the 1/4 mile....very happy!!

OK, lets start off by saying that I am no John Force. I would consider myself slightly above average driver. That being said, after work last friday night i ran home, got my helmet and took my 335i sedan to Englishtown raceway. I got there and ran the car the way it was, 36psi in the tires, almost half a tank of gas. I did not powershift.

My first run against a honda civic-
I spun out of the hole, when i shifted second i had wheel hop, all other shifts were solid.
ran a 60' of 2.60 (horrible i know) but a 1/4 of 13.60 at 102mph i was impressed and surprised by that.

Second run against a G35-
60ft of 2.3 with same problems as first run, however this time i was shifting right at redline and more wheelspin in 2nd and the fact that the car doesnt perform best shifting at redline, led to another 13.65 at 106mph in the 1/4

My last run, solo (i was the last car of the night)
a 2.06 sec 60' with some wheel hop, less, but still some hop in 2nd, and all else perfect from there, the car ran a 13.403 at 103mph.

I cant tell you all how impressed and happy i am with the performance of that thing. There was also another 335i coupe there, his best time was a 13.6, but to his defence, he had a broken finger and 19" rims.lol Im very sure with some better driving i can drop another tenth or two

Ill post pics and timeslips ASAP

You should PROcede it and see the differences between the two. Stock and modded of course but with the same variables if possible, half tank gas 36 psi etc

Congrats. 106 mph shows us that the BMW has a very strong engine. 106 mph stock is very very good.

Agreed, 106 is one of the fastest trap speeds I have seen for a stock 335i.

I could be wrong but in my experience you I have always had to wear a helmet at the drag strip. I think when I used to go on Long Island if you ran below a 17 you have to wear a helmet. And I think at some tracks if you break into either the 11's or maybe 10's they require a cage.

I am not sure about the cage rule but I have always been required to wear a helmet

most tracks are under 14 = helmet per NHRA; local one here they say 13.5 = helmet, but they dont really enforce it

Im a fan of E-town. Its a very nicely groomed track. I was always able to be consistant there. What was the theme on friday night? I thought saturdays were "run what you brung" nights. Either way, I want to get my car out there as soon as its broken in as well. I would DEFINITELY drop the pressure in the tires though to about 28. You werent getting the best traction because you had too much pressure. I gotta check mine, I dont want them that high on the street. Should be around 34 on the street.

I'd drop it to 25 psi. My father has a GTS viper.. if I don't drop to 25 psi at the track it will 2.2 60' :sucks (yes he doesn't race and lets me beat the crap outta it at the 1/4 mile!) but I can hit 1.9's with lower pressure. It really makes a huge difference!

Thats with regular tires though, not runflats. Below 28psi on RFT's its pointless as the stiffer sidewall begins to take over. 20-25psi on regular tires would be a lot more beneficial.

lol yeah i was impressed, for those who are wondering, it was a test and tune night for muffled cars(every friday and wednesday night) YES i smoked the g35...by like a second and a half. and i was already wearing a helmet...at etown you always have to. dont think it needs to be full faced, but you do have to wear one.
