regarding the recall
If your hpfp dies after the 4yr/50k warranty is up but before the 10yr/120k and you bring your car in with a tune what are the odds they say that even though we said it could fail and issued a recall this one might have happened because of your tune and you are SOL?

As awfully helpful as both of you are this is a fairly unique situation which I don't think has been addressed... So if anyone has any constructive advice or experience with the connection between warranties and recalls that would be awesome.

Ok, since you obviously dont know how to take out your tune or something..
I dont think BMW can resist doing a recall which pertains to safety regardless of what is done to your car. Does that answer your question? I cant speak from experience, but that would be my best guess if you must go in with a tune.

Anything anyone says here pure speculation OP. No one here can tell you with absolute certainty if there will be an issue of you bringing your car in with a tune.
Take the tune out, it's as simple as that. Common sense buddy! |

Some dealers are cool with mods but never a tune. I take my tune out but I leave in my intercooler, DCI, LSD, and the USB cable that runs from my glove box to the ecu compartment. They can't get you unless they find a tune so take it out.

I think the general consensus is that its gonna be hard to link an intake to any engine failure, so you should be good. But its presence might make them look harder at the ecu for signs that you've been in there.

Recalls have nothing to do with warranties.
If you are OUT of warranty, you can bring the car in with airplane wings bolted to the side of it and flames coming out the tailpipes. They are obligated to perform the warranty regardless of your mods. If you are IN warranty then well... duh. |
