Yes it will work but belive it or not A standard 5/8 spark plug socket will work just fine. I just recently changed my friends 335i and my 325i with that same socket. If you don't belive me just try it. I'm so glad I didnt have to spend $60 on the special BMW socket or Any other special socket.

Haven't tried, but I have done it on other cars and all you have to do is wedge it slightly between the plug wall and they lift out. Either that or get a set of pliers or magnet down there and lift it out. Shouldn't give you much hassle either way.

The main thing for the N54 is you need a thin-walled socket to get clearance down the plug well, normal socket will not fit.

It might on yours, but the N52 has different plugs than the N54. Have you tried that socket on the N54?

Yes I have tride the socket on the n54 engine. Both the n52 and the n54 use a similar/almost identical thin wall socket that bmw makes, but as I found out the other day a regular 5/8 spark plug socket will fit just fine on both n52/n54engines. I had doubts my self until I tride the plug on both cars.

Well, I don't know which "regular 5/8 spark plug socket" you used but I just tried using two different ones from Canadian tire (standard ones) and neither of them could reach deep enough as they were not thin walled enough. So, no, not any regular 5/8 will work...just wasted about 45 minutes trying...

i ordered one from ecs a month ago. it does work but it doesn't have rubber to grab/hold spark plug, instead it has magnetic. i tried to push the magnetic back because it was sitting right in the middle of the socket, getting in a way. it didn't quite work, so i ended up pulling it out. i used magnetic pointer thingy to grab a socket. so to your question, yes it fits but it doesn't grab the plug.

they supposedly fixed this issue but they told me ones they have in stock is for the older style plugs so i ended up getting some of money back as credit. not a big deal though... hope this helps...
