Quite Possibly a Stupid Question
Ok, so I own a 335D and I have modded it to some extent. To be quite honest I am absolutely in love with it and am proud of it being a diesel.
I constantly send pics of my MPG estimate to my friend lol. Being in organic, gluten free, bicycle friendly, "ohhh I own a Tdi cause I am saving the environment," green Washington, I kinda want people to know it's a diesel. Sooo how cheesy would it be to have a "BMW diesel" License plate frame? After writing this, it sounds pretty "we todd it." lol <-If you felt like my alien friend Roger when you read this please say so! Flame on! Last edited by Diesel Pimpin'; 02-22-2013 at 12:59 AM.. My frame already says "Diesel Power". That was my first mod. I could tell a funny story about one fill up station experience. The public knows BMW but they largely know nothing about BMW Diesel.

It is cool, but 99% of 'murican drivers don't even know anything about diesel.
Explaining my desire for a 335d or a tdi to my gf, she broke in and asked, "What is diesel....isn't that what trucks and buses use? You want to drive a truck?" Then my 34yo brother in law as we were talking about tdis...."I heard you have to change spark plugs on those often and they go through distributor caps." Your idea is cool, I'd probably want to tastefully differentiate my car slightly too like your idea. Just sad that most of America has no clue to what Diesel can do and sad that our worthless leaders in Washington tax it so highly yet demand automakers develop cars greater than 50mpg. Typical backwards retarded Government. |

I guess my logic was:
1. The plate frame was quite cheap. 2. I realized I was only going to reach a small percentage of drivers, mostly car junkies. And that's all I care about anyway.

This is awesome. Doubly so considering I can't even remember the last time I saw a distributor cap on a gas engine. Actually, I can, it was a 2000 Chrysler Sebring. But my E46 of the same year had coilpacks, so it's been a VERY long time since BMW used them.

I don't think it's a stupid question. I notice other diesels, and tend to remember if I've seen them before. For car commuters, it's the same thing as noticing the same people on the train. I'll have to see if I can find one of these plate frames.

I have a fun story about a fill up station and a trucker diesel gun.... haha and another redneck gas station attendant who I had to argue with because he said I was wrong about it not being diesel.

I found a place near my house that had a consistent $4.09 credit card price until recently. Now 4.15. My friend in the Bay Area pays a lot more but I think in the end I am happy with the extended range I can drive. I will say it gets tiring having to argue "Oh, you pay more in gas and the car costs more. Thankfully 320d is coming that'll fix that argument. |

Two comments / questions....
Are we really sure the F30 is coming with a 320D configuration? The news of that dates back to Aug 2012. Prior to the news of the 320i. Perhaps BMW decided at the last minute the 320 will be the i model. Since the release of the 320i I have seen zero news of a D. Second....Does fuelly compensate for Imperial gallon vs US gallon? Been on there a few times and often wonder if UK users are skewing the total average mpg higher due to their larger size gallon. |

2. Fuelly lets you configure it anyway you want: gallons or liters, odometer reading or miles since last fillup, MPG or liters per 100km, etc. Quite a nice site. Plus you can email with other Fuelly users and establish correspondence, ask them about their cars, etc.

TBH from a performance perspective I'm thinking our M57(335d) will be the pinnacle of 3 series diesel in the US. Not thrilled about AWD only. |
