Turbo timer??

I'm new to owning a turbo'd engine, currently a 07 335xi, but what I remember from friends owning lancers and wrx's is when they turned off their cars their engine's cooling system would still be going in order to cool down the turbos. I noticed our bmw's don't do this even in the extreme heat of summer. Does this damage the internal parts of the turbo? Has anyone added a turbo timer to their car that didn't void the warranty?

Your car will run the electric water after shut down if needed to cool it down, so a turbo timer is not needed on the 335i.

Don't you think that if it was necessary that BMW would have installed one?

Haha I'd like to have that much faith in them but after getting strung around about the fuel pump and injectors I lost my confidence. Who'd have thought you'd spend $45k on a premium car only to have the dealership treat you like a homeless guy off the street whenever there's an issue. By the way I never hear any electric fans staying on after shutdown, are they super quiet or something?

Guess I'll have to push it harder and give that a shot to see if I hear it. And here I thought pushing 100 on the expressway home from work was enough.

The electric water pump will run after shutdown, but it's contorlled by overall coolant temp- not just turbo temp. After shut down, heat can conduct directly down the turbine, through the shaft, and to the first bearing without hitting the cooling jacket.

After normal driving, just go ahead and shut down, but if you've been driving hard, or fast on the highway, take it easy for a minute or two before shutdown to allow the turbine to cool off a little.

The fans won't be running but the water pump will, should hear a light humming noise after shutdown
