Best place to buy an MSD81?

Hi all, might need to replace my MSD80. Cheapest Ive found online has been 1100, anyone know where else I might look at?

Maybe Im missing something here but I thought they had to be new because of the vin being burned in or something. Can someone clear this up for me. Id be elated if I didnt have to fork out a grand for 1.

You are correct. I've not heard of a successful used DME swap. It could be done in theory but you would need to change all modules to the ones from the donor car. You need to get a new one from BMW as it has to be ordered with you VIN already programmed the dealers can not do that with INPA.

Ok, so I need to order a new DME. Where do I get it? Ebay isnt going to work obviously.

If it has to be order through BMW because it has to be for your vin, think about your question for a minute and then you tell us where you can order it from....I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with stealership.

Why don't you just fix your dme?

It has been done before and it looks quite simple if you know basic soldering

+1 either try and fix yourself or you need to order a new one from the dealer VIN matched to your car. Takes 2-3 weeks from what I understand.

I tried having it fixed and no bueno. DME was toast
