335i Auto Issue

Mines been doing this for some time now and as soon as I notice it misbehaving I drive it hard a couple of times and it pretty much stays away, we'll has done for the last year anyway!

My daily commute is about 25 miles each way of mainly city driving and it only takes a few hard accelerations each journey to stop it from adapting to economy mode or whatever it slips into!!

No on mine the problem is when you nearly stop then go to accelerate again it delays then lurches into gear.
If you totally stop then pull away its fine!
Also seems to behave a lot better in sport mode.

Well having driven the car for another 40 odd miles today it does seem after 2 days to be genuinely better, the town thing though does to a degree surprise me just a bit, if this is the case as it does seem a tad too sensitive to change of driving and/or conditions, compared say with my old E46 330d Auto which I'd have to say could have the adaptations changed and behave anywhere in a more sympathetic manor, this gearbox on the other hand is very complex by comparison, which goes with the evolution of the product and modern technology.... Perhaps re how you drive and how it learns its just a little too sophisticated for its own good.

Have the exact same problem on mine, slowing down for a rounabout etc, if you don't fully stop and try to accelerate the car seems to pause while it works out what it wants to do, then drops down a gear and lurches forward with quite a noticeable thump, almost as if the gearbox was caught on the hop. It doesn't really happen very often but now you've mentioned it I'll try the throttle reset.

So what is the exact procedure? Foot on throttle and just key in ignition? Do you need to press the engine start button at any point?

There are various procedures floating around but this as the one I use,

1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time
2. Insert key and push START Button
3. Press and HOLD accelerator pedal for 30 seconds (some say 5, some say 25 seconds - I did 30 to be sure).
4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, push the START Button
5. Release accelerator pedal
6. Wait full 2 minutes
7. Start car normally

I think I know what you mean. Mine has always done this. Had a complete car software update a few months ago and it went. It came back about 2 months later. I can reset adaptations myself and have even followed the gearbox learning procedure available from ZF with no positive results. It does appear to change with how the car is driven and seems worse from cold. I guess we all know that the car changes into second to pull away and what seems to happen is that sometimes on application of throttle it changes its mind and goes for first. Thats my best guess. Mine does not do it that often so I dont generally worry about it. I think it is unlikely to be a fault or sign of wear. I have read elsewhere of similar issues.
