Best SSK for 335XI ?

Hey,

So after my failed attempt at getting the performance BMW SSK installed in my MY2010 335 XI e90 LCI (it was my fault), I'm beginning to look at aftermarket SSK's.

So far, I heard some nice things about UUC's SSK, but what do you guys recommend?

I've searched, but I just want to make sure that I buy the right one this time...

you guys recommending SSK's, are you sure they work with the XI? If I remember correctly there were a bunch that didn't work due to some extra shenanigans that were in the way

Did you have to drop the tranny to install? I thought all the SSK would fit the XI, but you had to do more to get them installed due to a driveshaft being in the way.

Get the UUC EVO specific for the 335XI. It's not cheap at almost $350. The big positive is the shifter has a new pivot cup that raises it up and reduces shifting effort from the shortened throw which other short throw shifters suffer from.

You have to loosen/drop the center exhaust and lower the transmission a bit to be able to access the shifter area from underneath and pull out the carrier as the instructions require. BTW, it's the same procedure on the 335XI and the 335i at least according to UUC. This is really best done on a lift IMO. Not really that easy to do on ramps etc.

So consensus is UUC? I'll keep that in mind...I'll probably get it installed in May, so I'll see if anything new comes out (I doubt something will, but yeah...)

Yeah right - I have the UUC EVO3 and first thing you notice is your second gear is where your neutral used to be. Second, when it sits in gear there is roughly an 1/8' leeway each way (meaning the shifter wiggles left to right in gear). Overall, I COMPLETELY REGRET getting this SSK because of its overall sloppiness, if you will. I have made numerous posts both here and other forums about it and some people can vouch for me but others think im crazy (and no, its not installed backwards because we took it out and reinstalled it again following the directions word for word).

Its gotten so bad Im about to throw my stocker back in.

It sounds like you have a shifter with the wrong bends to it. You should see if you can check the part number etc and verify with UUC you have the correct one (335i ?). I'm no UUC superfan but mine fits 100% perfectly.

The shifter pole doesn't have any play in it- the play is at the other end of the selector rod where it attaches to the transmission at the selector rod joint.

My UUC has a little play (1"?) left-to-right as well but I'm not going to put it on a lift etc and do what is required to install their DSSR and a new selector joint bushing ($130+). With shop labor around here that'd be close to $300 which isn't worth it to me.

I hope you get your shifter pole sorted out. That sucks.

I think there is something wrong with your SSK. I have the EVO 3 on my 335i and it is perfect. I have very very little play on my stick. The stick position is pretty close to stock also. Best part is the 1-2 shift problem is gone.

I am using a RK7 knob, CDV, and Royal Purple Synchromax tranny fluid also.

I had the UUC in my 04' 330ci and it was awesome. Unbelievable build quality and excellent shifts. Can't go wrong!
