I recently bought 07 E92 335 i was wondering if it normal to have grabby brakes when car its completly stoped it's impossible to come to a smooth stop my trany shifts smooth its just brakes, any input would be great thanks..

They can be a bit touchy if you aren't use to them. Give it a month and they will feel mushy :P

when I first got my car I couldn't stop smoothly unless I really tried. It just takes getting used too. Coming from a trans am with rather mushy brakes to this was a pretty big change.

One of my friends told me that a lot of german cars have a sort of pedal depression speed sensor... meaning if you quickly tap the brakes, even a just a little, it will react like an almost panic stop and brake more than intended momentarily (not linear to actual pedal depression). Not sure if it's true but it sounds feasible.

It's justthe stock brake pads that feel grabby. Change the pads and the brakes will feel more progressive.

If it's just at a stop that you're feeling it, it's a common issue with the brakes. I don't know of any fix for that.

I've heard of others trying different pads with no improvement, or minimal improvement, so I doubt the pads are the culprit here.

yeah its only when stoping car other then that its fine transs. up shifts and downshifts smooth ..

I remember reading this somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's true. IMO, I would prefer sticky brakes over mushy brakes. It feels like there isn't any stopping power on mushy ones. ( don't get me wrong, I try to stop without lurching forward )

Agreed, sticky > mushy.

But I've driven plenty of cars that were neither. I.e., they were firm and linear. Hard to believe BMW couldn't find that same balance. Doesn't exactly support the "Ultimate Driving Machine" claim...

have the same issue in my CPO 07 335i. I came from a honda prelude, which had very smooth progression in the breaks...almost perfect. I was able to stop with no lurch whatsoever...now with the BMW its almost impossible...however I actually like this because it really has a crap load of breaking power..

What year was your T/A? I had a navy blue 2000 WS6.

Swapping it to cool Carbon brake pads should work great! It did for me smoother braking without much brake dust!

That's before I changed to Alcon anyways, never looked back

OP...If your car is like mine, it is a known issue with 335i and the Auto transmission. BMW has issued a SIB # 24 03 08. You can do a search in the brake forum for "sticky brakes" and it should be a 7 page post. BTW, this SIB is really more related to leaving a stoplight or stop sign. You let off the brakes and they feel like they do not release for a second or so. Usually only happens when the transmission is in D and the car is not fully warmed up. My car is at BMW as we speak for the SIB fix. It has to do with the NIC calibration. It seems they have to update / program the car with the latest ISTA/P version. Takes 4-8 hours usually. Hope this helps.

i had the same problem too. now when im about to stop i slowly start to take pressure of the pedal, then it does the rest by itself. i can get those silky smooth stops without spilling any of my beer

My brakes feel rather mushy and sometimes I think they won't stop me at all if I did not apply enough force. I have the stock pads and they are not worn out at all.

My old Jetta used to stop on a dime with ceramic brake pads. I guess I am used to that type of brake feedback.

I've noticed that initial grabby feeling your speaking of. To confirm it feels like when you first apply the brakes, it seems like you are from 0%, to when you first touch the brake you're already at 20% of the braking power huh?

Cool Carbon pads eliminate that 0-20% feeling by allowing you to fully modulate how much braking is really necessary so you can go all the way from 5%-10%-15% and so on if needed. If you want to upgrade those pads, this is the time to do it

Funny, my car is at the dealership right now getting the software update to fix the trans problem you're referring to. Fingers crossed!

However, I believe that's different from the braking problem the OP has raised.
