Wasn't it about 20 years ago almost every manyfacturer was putting something about "Injection" on their car, followed by "16 valve" and "DOHC".

Its not been subtle for ages!

Loved the "Cosworth" badge on the back of my Sierra back in the late 80's. Said it all really. Alway had people trying to race me though to see if it was a "real" Cosworth.

The only car I have ever debadge was my 330i E46 Covertible. Thought it looked cleaner without it.

I've left the 320d on my car. It's a stunning car and I have no issue with people knowing what's under the bonnet.

I think there's something refined about someone who has the better car taking the badge off, otherwise it is a bit "look at me, I'm billy big engine and I need a badge so everyone can see".

my point being MOST de-badgeing, is done on lower spec cars, and i for one dont understand it, if you have a 320d then be proud because its a very nice car.

I may have said earlier, but to answer Steve, I debadged because:

i) I think it looks cleaner
ii) It is easier to clean
iii) It leaves people guessing and isn't so in your face, look at me and my badge.

I couldn't think of one reason to leave the badge on.

I think a great many people debadge smaller engined BMW's so that they can pose as something else.

I think this is the same reason why some people with older cars put on private plates to disguise their age.

There was also a trend for diesel owners to debadge, so that it wasn't obvious that their cars were oil burners.

This is one of the reasons why BMW now offer straight tailpipes for diesels, so that there are no external visual differences between petrol and derv.

I think this is less true now that a few years ago, when company car drivers first switched to deisel, because modern turbo-deisels are much more respectable these days.

any pics of your old cossie? was she a 3door or a saff??

always wanted one since i was 18 untill about 7 months ago when a 335d was put in front of me

i have a rs turbo fiesta in storage

This is very true and I wish I'd asked for the badge "bits" when I took delivery just in case whoever I sell it to wanted the badge on!

Am seriously thinking about a very small "V2" though...

probably look sad, but I actually like to keep people guessing and the car tends to be an ice breaker when people ask,

"er, so what exactly IS that, it's a five series right ?"

V2 will REALLY confuse them

1st Cossie I had was a black "E" reg 3 door. Stunning car.kept it standard and sold it to my mate approx 15 years ago.He still has it!!

2nd one was a Sapphire - Mercury grey 2wd with a full stage 3 upgrade. It was stupidly quick but got totally smoked by a Lotus Carlton on the M6. Never realised those cars were so quick!

3rd and last was a Sapphire 4x4 in Magenta. Beautiful car with raven leather. Kept that standard.

Love the Fiesta RS Turbo.My mate had one and I could never lse him on twisty roads, it was like a go-cart! on the straights though he was history...

I will try and find some pictures for you. The black 3 door was stunning. I still miss it now

I spec'd mine as debadged.

The primary reason was ease of cleaning/detailing. I also prefer the look of the badge central in the bootlid and nothing either side of it.

It's also one less badge for a scummer to try and steal/less to vandalise (a consideration wen my car spends a considerable chunk of its time of side streets in London).

With the tell-tale exhausts of the BMW range simply removing the badges doesn't diguise the model you drive - those 'in the know' are still going to be able to tell exactly what engine you have under the bonnet anyway, and these are the people that those who debadge for purposes of impressing are trying to hoodwink, so it's a pointless exercise in that respect.

I plan to de-badge my 335i coupe and install an aftermarket polished chrome license plate frame that is brush etched "335i" on the bottom center. Very clean and highly diminished look as I honestly do not give a damn about what model of car people think I drive. To me, it looks better which is all that matters.

Addendum: My 335i day two after tinting and de-badging. The two-bolt license plate has 335i in lightly brushed inlay. A clean look.

....fookers vandilising. my thoughts exactly, plus it simply looks better. the sweet sound coming from the exahusts on either side are enough to show people whats what! of course better when i have my eisenmann

My biggest gripe is the downturned pipe - if only it hadn't been so expensive when I ordered!!

I've decided to de-badge mine - the badge is slightly wonky anyway. Based on the twin pipes, people might think I've got a 335i. Until I start it up and it sounds like a delivery van ;-(
