The Watkins Glen Harbour Hotel, hands down is the best place to stay. The hotel is clean, bar is good and the restaurant is excellent.

Or if you want to save money then Microtel in Bath. it's like a third of the price. but don't show up with an Amex Centurion. they'll look at you like you fell off another planet. lol

Car is finally running. Was at ICar with Viperclub this eve. Was pretty fun. I'm heading back on Tuesday to burn up my last few coupons I bought back in May.

It feels good to be back in the driver seat. Driving in the complete darkness was interesting. A few folks veered off into never never land. You know that puzzled look you get on your face when you ask .... "Now where the heck is he going? The apex is over there". I saw a lot of that. I started to get fuel starvation at 1/2 a tank with those long fast right handers and called it quits early.

?? The track is fine. You bad driva. I always do 2 (or more) slower laps to pick out flagger stations, grip zones, extra run off areas, rumblers, sewer grates and other hazards and then specifically stress out those hazards for one full session. You bad driva.

The only thing I have to say about ICar is that the close quarter cement barriers are the only real hazards. So you adjust for that too. My ICar story is Sanair. Sanair is a pretty beat up track and I actually bent up a rim on one occasion and crashed another time. I hated the place. I vowed that I would never go back. But it bugged me all winter that I was letting a race track win out over what should be simple driving skills. When this season started, I was back out there to figure out how to conquer my gremlins. It didnt take long. I even won a gentleman's race in the rain starting in last position. Unless you feel the track is truly unsafe, you need to get back out to ICar. It is close to Montreal, affordable, and has some good challenging spots that will force you to adapt (or not) and hopefully help you hone them skills. Ok. Off my soap box.

I was at ICAR this June doing a charity event for Trioomph. It was my first time there since 2009. When I first went there in 2009, I did not like it at all. The track was way too tight, visibility was poor and the pavement destroyed tires. This time around, I found the track layout much better, they opened it up a lot. However it is still a tire killer...
Not my favourite track... Last edited by CanAutM3; 09-08-2013 at 10:03 AM.. |
