Caliper & Rotor Paint/Upgrade Project In Progress...
After adding the new 19" AG M310's in Matte Gunmetal, I really began to notice how shitty the stock calipers and rotors look. The typical rust has started on the rotor hats and the calipers... can't BMW offer us something a little better, something between stock and the Performance arm and a leg $$ models?
So I called Alan at **********s last week and asked about a set of drilled rotors. He said there was one set of Stop Tech drilled rotors left in the US for the E90 LCI so I jumped on them and they should be here tomorrow or Tuesday! Now on to the calipers... well, Brembo, Stop Tech, BMW Perf, etc. aren't in the budget for now, so what else could I do to liven up the look. I called about powder coating, but decided it wasn't worth the cost or hassle to perform on the stock caliper. After a big debate with myself, I decided to high temp paint the stock calipers in Gloss Red. This is a great option for me because I don't have the expense or down time associated with powder coating and for the amount of time I'll own the car (trade a lot) it will give me the look I want. I decided to use the DupliColor Caliper Paint in the spray can. After figuring our how to get the car off the ground on all four stands with one jack and using the factory pads I was off to removing the current hardware. The pics below show the jack stand placement and disassembly from start to the first coat of paint. More pics as the project progresses, but interested in what you think so far.

I was told that's only the case if you disconnect the brake lines and disassemble the caliper body and powder coat. I've left the calipers connected and taped off all of the bolts, bleeders, bolt holes and pad tab trays. Just lipstick on the pig

All the painting is done and the calipers are reassembled. The rotors are due for delivery tomorrow and I can get this wrapped up. A couple of pics of the reassembled rotors...

Project complete!
After waiting all day for UPS, they finally showed up last night at 8pm with the STOP TECH ROTORS!!! The rotors are direct OEM replacements and with the black hats, look even better than the pics. Easy installation and I think the red calipers make a huge improvement. With the gun metal wheels on the AW everything looks better! Here are a few more pics to round out the thread. Thanks for all the feedback! This project was definitely worth the time and taking everything apart, masking off the piston, floating bolts, etc. ensured a fully painted rotor top to bottom and front to back. Let me know what you think.

Looks great! Most rotor painting kits are actually epoxies however and harden. Hope the duplicolor holds up with wear and tear and washing because it looks good!

Me too! The DupliColor kit is a specific paint for the caliper so I'm hoping it lasts. If not, it would now be pretty easy to take the wheel off and use the brush on kit to touch it up.

It lasts... have it on my other car for like 2.5 years now in Jersey weather and washing it all the time.

I just reused the factory pad since they were in great condition. I went through Stop Tech's recommended "Bedding In" with it this morning and they're awesome. Super smooth, no chattering, no pull and great grab. I'm very happy with the entire project and I save $500 by not powder coating!

Easy job, just take your time and mask everything off. Prep was most of the work.

Very nice job, looks great. I agree the 335 stock brakes look bad, BMW did such a good job designing the rest of the car but left the calipers to the engineers.
