How does one load this update? Stick the .bin file onto a USB and insert the USB into the center console USB?

Make sure your USB drive is formatted FAT32, copy the update file UPD01006.bin to the root of the USB drive (not in a directory). Plug the USB drive into the console USB (under armrest, not glovebox). From your iDrive menu browse to Settings > Software update > Update software. Wait a few seconds if you don't see anything, a prompt to update the system software should come up.

These updates applies to the combox only which I don't think you have. If you have the combo retrofit, these should work. I updated mine software before on my 08 CIC retro + combox.

Well this seems to break more than it fixes. Before when I would get text messages it would show who sent it but now it says "Sender Unknown" and then lists the sender in the message text. I did receive the text from someone with iMessage but that worked fine in 1005 as well. :-/

I'm having the same issue. Using an iPhone 4s running iOS 6. Might just revert back to previous update until this gets fixed.

^^ Yup. I just confirmed it is happening with non iMessage texts as well.

Amazing! They released an update that fixed a problem that didn't seem to exist and, what's more, created a new one! Not sure if this is BMW or Apple though. I'm sure if I spoke to either party they would indicate it is the others problem.

This update has caused me issues when playing my Iphone music via USB Cable. The IDrive doesn't have any Song Info and most times I can't change songs via steering wheel now.

UGH. Wonder if I can scale back to the previous version.

You can, I saw a "restore previous version" option in the same menu to "update".

^^ Yup, I did that. Still amazed they would release an update that broke something and didn't fix anything.

For those of you that were experiencing issues with this update, what version level is your car running? MX/TX 1, 2 or 3?
