Is my turbo about to die?
Hi guys, I've recently bought an E90 320d 2007 pre lci. The car has 46000 miles on it, and since I picked it up I've been getting a siren like noise coming from the engine bay. A quick search on-line suggests my turbo is about to give up the ghost. Luckily the car is a BMW approved used, so comes with 1 years warranty. I would just like to get a few opinions from people who have experienced this problem before I go back to the dealer. I've made a short video of the noise. Please excuse the crappy quality.

Shouldn't sound like that at all. Back to dealer under complaint.

hmmmm, mine doesn't sound as bad as that I don't think but does seem to make bit of a whistling noise, can anyone advise how much 'whistling' is normal? my 330D (late 2007 pre LCI) is my first Diesel/first turbo'd car so no idea if it's not meant to whistle at all or if a bit is to be expected. Seems to drive OK but would be good to know ASAP if the turbo is past its best, maybe I should get a video together...

OK, so turbo diagnosed as needing replacement. Getting a new turbo today within BMW AUC warranty. Well done BMW Williams Manchester. Car's got ~45k on the clock (out of which I've done ~600 miles tops)

a friend of mine is a tech at williams in manchester, its worrying how many diesel turbos he is replacing, 530d and 320d are the worst for it apparently
i wonder if the CBS has anything to do with it (ie. 18k oil changes on diesels)

When buying the car I thought 45k is nothing so wasn't initially worried about the whine but it's gotten worse quite quickly. Big thanks to Williams Manchester for dealing with the problem promptly. |

Guys, im looking for help too, poor MPG, about 35mpg max, I took out and cleaned the egr valve ( point to note, it was really dirty ) when i was packing up again I noticed a loose aluminum pipe running accross the bottom of the engine bay that had broken off, I think its the intercooler pipe but not sure, what damage if any am i causing by driving ? what should be in this pipe ? water ? oil ? air ?
