first brake job out of my pocket after50k. anyone tried ebay brake kit? any comment?
price makes it really tempting...
looking for real advise from those who have tried or owned before, not usual comments like "ebay sells pos" or "it's so cheap so try on"... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT anyone after 50k warranty did your brake pads/rotor/sensor (not bbk), feel free to comment....

I was going to but after comparing my ebay brakes from another car that have been on for 3 or so years to the 4 year old rotors on my e90 i decided to go factory rotors all around. They are more expensive but fwiw I think compared to alot of the asian stuff on ebay you are getting a much higher quality product. Not to say there arent good ones on there, but just my .02

Good find. I searched a little and saw Vette owners have been using these for a while. I didn't check out all their reviews though. I didn't see anything negative from the 10 mins I searched.

I just got Breakperformance.com premium slotted/drilled rotors zinc coated... work really well but there is some noise as the outer coating of the rotors and new Hawk street perforance pads start to come off. Its not a squeel but more like folding a piece of plastic wrap - if that makes sense.
They look great though.

my friends with jdm cars also suggested couple of links but they all seem to be very similar of what they advertize on their website as far as zinc plating, high quality, blah blah blah....
i'm mainly debating whether i should stick with oem, which it seems that more expensive than aftermarket solution or give it a try with after market... i don't mind paying bit of premium for the quality but i certainly not looking to spend $1000 for just brake pads/rotor replacement...

EBC is cheap compare to other price. I just order a pair for less than $400.

Although on another car i guess i could say i've had a good experience with chinese rotors, but i think i got my no'namers from summit. There is definitely a big difference in the care for anti corrosion protection. My china rotors had virtually nothing on them. the stuff i bought from BMW had a healthy matte silver coating of protection ALL the way through the vanes and out! Little things like that made a difference to me. Im not trying to advocate the stealership (heck i had a 15% off card for em) but I think brakes are one of those things you get what you pay for, and for the job they are doing, I dont see the value in going for a "discount" option. there is a thread up here somewhere where someone had a horror story with cheap rotors, along the lines of them rusting/corroding from the inside out. the vanes just looked ridiculously horrible and fell apart INSIDE. That is probably the far end of that side of the spectrum. fwiw... |

If you want quality, never buy anything made in China. In general, the steel they use in China is inferior. I've seen it firsthand (compared to steel from Taiwan) but you can google for other stories.
Brakes are of such importance I don't think anyone should try to save money here. |

i do agree brake is important part of the vehicle and shouldn't use inferior product to save some money but i've seen what people thought "inferior" was proven to performs as well as what's thought to be the top of the line product (fwe examples on intercooler, intake, dp on our car itself)
again, i'm not trying to depending ebay product (if so i would've already bought it without posting so). i just want good and relatively inexpensive option to replace pads/rotors. i looked around and ebay price i found was cheaper than pads alone on tischer hence asking if people tried out... i am willing to hear from what brake rotors/pads/sensors people use and where they ordered it...

Just look at Chinese made tools and ask yourself this: Do they EVER last? Is that the type of quality you want on your BMW? |

I didn't use those specific rotors but have used somewhat cheap rotors in the past on my beater E36. They warped while I was bedding in the pads. So I got maybe... 8 miles of use out of them. Went and bought Centric ones afterwards - still cheap but are still working pretty well. I have Centric rotors on 3 cars right now that all seem OK, but they are all daily driver / beaters. Nothing I have taken to the track.
