Street/Track Tire Set Help
I have finally decided to make the jumpt to a much more agressive tire set up. I currently am still running my winter tires on the stock OEM M-Package 18" wheels that came on my 2010 e90 335i. The factory tires were actually stolen out of my shed when I was moving, and I need to get these winter tires off so it is time to order a new set.
I am going to keep my stock 18" wheels for this set of tires, as I do not foresee them lasting for an extended period of time given my driving style and intent to track my car this summer. I think I have narrowed my decision down to one of three sets: 1) Yokohama ADVAN A048 2) Toyo Proxes R888 3) Michelin Sport Cup What are your thoughts? What tires would you go with out of the bunch, or is there another set you would prefer? What would be the most aggressive ("meatiest") size I could go with? I know the stock set is 225/40 up front and 255/35 out back. Ultimately, I will be putting spacers to make it as flush as possible, but will have to wait to measure after the tires are mounted. Unless, someone has an idea of what sizes would work best together. Thanks again for any input! I really value the opinion of this forum and feel like its members are top notch. Willing to help others out and not simply push the "there is a search button, use it" philosophy (though sometimes it is warranted ) Thanks again for any help! |

i think the general consensus is PSS. you would be fine with AD08 as well. but the r888 wouldnt be all that great to have if it rains. i am also looking for a set which would be good for daily and maybe 2 -3 track days this summer. im going to be going with pss with 245/35/19 up front and 275/30/19 in the rear.

The PSS meaning the pilot super sport? Or did you mean the sport cup? I am looking more for an R compound tire I think. I really am not too worried about rain given my close proximity to work.
What size do you think I would be able to run? 235/40 and 265/35? Do you think I would still need a spacer? Thanks again! |

I mean the pilot super sport. I haven't looked too much into the pilot sport cup but ppl have been raving about the r888 and how sticky they are. Just be prepared to change them out more often. With the stock 18s you should be good with 235 and 265. Don't think you'll need spacers.

Perfect, Thanks! I think I have decided on the R888. 235/40ZR18 for the fronts and 265/35ZR18 for the back. To confirm, this should fit on the 193M wheels that are 18x8" ET34 upfront and 18x8.5" ET37 out back, with no issue and rubbing?
Thanks again! |

I would not mount 265 on 8.5, check wheel width requirement for the tire.

Looks like the 245/40ZR18 would also fit on the 8" front rim. Would that not be work? |

That is really helpful. Out of curiosity, what are you running? Do you have any experience with R-compound tires? It is tough to find people who have actually run with them.

I drove w/PS2 last season and felt that I needed a bit more grip. I will try new RE-11A next month with the new LSD. I also had staggered set-up last year and am looking fwd to additional grip in the front. I drove several days in rain and PS2 was excellent. Guys w/R-compound couldn't drive. |

In my experience, the Michelin Super Sports are the best option. R Compound like handling, with daily driving comfort and pretty decent life span. I run them on all my cars and they all see extensive track use. I run a square setup in 255/35/18's for track use in my 335is.

I am still struggling with my decision. Now I am worried that I am going to rub the strut with the 235/40 up front with any of my options. |
