Route planning on BMW Portal

Question about route planning on BMW Portal: I normally use Google to send locations to the car, which works well, but I was looking at the BMW route planner on the portal and this gives the ability to transfer the route once you have it via USB or on-line.

Having created a route I can see the option to "Save to USB Stick" and if I click that it downloads a file that I presumably can import in the car.

How do I do it on-line? According to the car-side part of the manual I can import from the portal (and I do have that option) but on the computer side I don't see how to save it to anywhere but USB.

Good thing about it is that my 06/2011 nav does not know about a road that only opened last month but the portal does. I created a route that natrually uses that road and sent it to the car. It then guides me that way effectively updating the map on the fly

Can't think why I never used it before, it's brilliant.

Go to www.bmw-routes.com and switch to English (at bottom).

Log in using Connected Drive credentials.

Plan route (google maps, draggable pins / waypoints etc)

Save & send to car.

The route is in the car by the time you walk outside.

Tiz a good feature. I know it's a bit of a gimmick, but I like the way you can assign a photo to your route.

Thanks. I think that when I tried before I must not have been logged in so did not get the "Save and Transfer to Vehicle" button.

That's the mistake I made - I had been logged into the portal but going on the link to that site did not keep me logged in, so I had to log in again. Then it works perfectly.
