Great write-up FBIS. Also reflects my own thoughts about the Quaife diff since I got it a few weeks back. And now the weather's improving, summer tires to be thrown on and I can finally get it tested properly!

Do you think we would have any issues running the OEM BMW Rear Axle Fluid (SAF-XJ + FM Booster) that the E46 M3 Runs? I ran this fluid in my M3. It's a long life fluid, i rather not be changing redline every 15k? Thoughts?

Can somebody explain to me how the LSD helps with drifting? I don't really understand the way this works. I can understand how it provides more traction but surely when you're drifting you've got no traction!

Alpina, I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts. When do you hope to get the car back in performance mode?

Joe, I simply went by the recommendations from Bird's Auto and VAC. I am definitely not the expert on that.

FazerBoy, when one tire spins the rear kicks out of control and that means you cannot successfully counter steer it always. When you have both tires spinning then the "slide" is controllable and if you choose to encourage it then you can drift.

I thought most places didn't accept the "welded" rear diff as a core! I know places like Turner Motorsport doesn't! Is this write-up indicating that VAC Motorsport DOES accept the welded diff as a refundable core?

Well, first of all my car is de-tuned right now because I had to get rid of my Evotech flash to make way for the GIAC stage 2. The latter however couldn't be installed as it took too much time to reprogram the ECU (due to the latest ISTA/P-version I had got previously and which apparently complicated things quite a bit) and I had to get back to Europe (from UK where it should have been done) before the flash could be done. So now I'm first of all waiting for the flash which I might get next week (depending on the travelling availability of the GIAC distributor in the UK). Driving stock sucks

Then my summer tires will be mounted next Thursday; before that, if all goes well, my Bilstein suspension could be installed at the beginning of next week, but I'm still waiting on the confirmation from my install shop time-wise.

Then I hope all will be ready for the real try-out on the Nürburgring on the Easter week-end. I intend to do a write-up of all my mods that I haven't reviewed yet after that experience, as I think only such a track can really give me the feedback I need - on public roads that's a bit tricky...

AA tune on the m3, launch control used a few too many times....ripped the diff right out of the subframe mounts, grenaded the bearings, dented up the subframe. If you look for the aluminum e92 diff mounts on the site, the pic they have on there is from the m3

For those that have asked about pricing, VAC just put up a special page for this. Take a look if you are interested.

I posted a link at the beginning of the thread. I hope this can help clarify this.

I am looking forward to reading your thoughts! Hopefully the shop can get it you as quick as possible. Waiting with mods in the garage is painful!

Thanks for the excellent write up, FBIS.

I am ordering the Quaife LSD tomorrow. I have the welded ring, so I have to get the complete final drive (pumpkin and all), which will add to the cost. Will make for a much easier install, though.

Anyhow, looking forward to getting it on.

Marcus, thanks for the kind words! Getting the pumkin makes the install so much easier. I think it can be swapped in around 2 - 3 hours most if you have all the needed tools and items on hand. Let me know how it goes!
