Google maps: Send to car without BMW Assist
So I retrofitted the Combox, replacing the older TCU. As a result, I did have to give up BMW Assist. This I dont care about other than the Send to car feature of Google maps.
I've always wanted to do this directly from my iOS device as well (iPad or iPhone), something that never worked with google maps on those devices. In this case, I use a iPad. I have iCloud enabled, meaning all my contacts sync via the cloud to all my iOS devices. So, on the ipad, launch google maps as normal, and look up your business name, or type in your destination address. Tap the red pin in google maps and tap the (I). At the bottom of the info banner will be a button that says "add to contacts". You're done, the contact will sync via icloud to your iPhone. If you're already using your iphone to do this, then its already stored locally as a contact (address, website, phone #). Now, go to your car, go to Office > contacts and search for you're new contact. Select the address, and there will be a option to use this as a destination. Idrive will do a "address check" , before guidance starts ... but that's it. Done ! Google maps, send to car, **without** BMW Assist. :-) |

Ok heres some screenshots showing the flow.
Remember I start on the iPad, but you can start on your iPhone. Doesnt really make any difference, other than if you do use your iPad, make sure you've enabled iCloud contact syncing. |

Not sure if you've taken a look at the Mini Connected app, from BMW, but that does do google maps send to car from within the app itself, along with google local search, rss news feeds, etc .... along with some additional capabilities. The BMW connected app looks quite poor by comparison !
I hope they will upgrade the BMW connected app in-line with Mini Connected. Give customers choice and flexibility on how the car is connected to the outside world, and not lock them in to service contracts. |

That's the reason I'm coding BMW Live into my iDrive -RSS Feeds, Weather, Google Search, Panoramio, Street View. And now your Send-To-Car solution... I'm set. |

Yes, BMW Live has a lot of potential certainly.
http://telematicsnews.info/2011/09/0...r-phone_s2041/ "Browser apps newly available on the BMW Online and BMW Live portal can be added using the application menu in a few steps. In this way, browser apps provided by BMW are handled in much the same way as applications on a smartphone." Qype and Wiki Local are available today (so long as you set country to GB). |

Thanks for the pics
It might be better to create one permanent contact (e.g. "BMW Addresses") and keep adding addresses instead of creating new ones. This will keep the phone book clean and will save you time to delete all these temporary entries. Would it work this way? |

Shouldn't be any limit on how many times you update that unique entry. You're just merely updating it with new info. |

FYI: there is a 3-address limit when adding to an existing contact. And once 3 addresses are added no other can be added/no existing added address is deleted/replaced. The first 3 addresses are permanent unless deleted.

I'm struggling to get this to work on my CIC, primarily because the "Add to Contact" feature on Google Maps is not there.

apple kicked out Google maps. Google reinvented Maps App to their liking. Your best bet is use Apple Maps. that functionality is still there. Good luck.
