Exclamation PROcede V3 Rev II - Review :: Datalogs :: Drags :: Dynos

Review

Preface

I’m aware that there are a million and a half of these types of reviews, so I’ll make this part brief so we can get to the numbers and the graphs. If you have any questions, however, feel free to ask!

First off, my car and relevant modifications:
- 2008 E92 335i 6MT
- April 2008 Build Date
- MSD81 DME
- Progman Version 29.2
- Vishnu PROcede V3 Revision II Computer
- Vishnu Dual-Cone Intake
- Autobahn Exotics Catless Quad Exhaust System
- 19” BBS Wheels and Michelin PS2 Tires

Ordering/Customer Service

I ordered the PROcede V3 Rev II computer and Vishnu DCI from RiXeffects a month ago. The transaction went very smoothly, necessitating only a few private messages from initial inquiry to payment. Rick responded quickly and professionally and was also available to answer my questions over the weekend.

I have nothing to report really regarding Vishnu’s customer service, as I’ve not had the need for the services yet. I did send one email directly to Shiv, and he responded within a couple hours.

The items shipped two days after my payment, and they arrived at my doorstep another two days later. From start to finish, it was a Monday-Friday wait.

Installation

I had planned on waiting until our local mod install day the following Sunday, but I couldn’t wait to get out on the road. Having a piggyback and DCI install under my belt I thought would be a good asset to the group as well. So with the PROcede install video ready to play on my laptop and beer in hand, I started tearing down the car midnight Friday.

The first mistake I made was performing the DCI install before the PROcede install, which allows much more room to work with all the cowling and filter components out of the way. This made the intake install take a little longer than it needed to be due to having a little trouble with the rear intake tubing.

All things considered the entire installation went without any major hitches. Even taking extreme care with the component R&R and taking a snack break, the install took about 3 hours from start to finish. This also included running a USB cable through to the glove box.

No CEL’s or problems to report on the first ignition, so I was ready to take her out for a middle-of-the-night spirited drive.

PROcede Software

I looked through all the menus and setup the datalogging tool to get a feel for the scope of the software. The program is basic and inherently easy to use. The datalogging tool is where the software shines and with my experience so far is quite powerful.

My only complaint is a minor frustration with the zooming functionality with the datalogs. The arrow keys work fine with zooming and positioning, but a way to dial in (by elapsed time in seconds) exact beginning and ending points would be fantastic. If this is currently possible, let me know!

Driving/Performance

I loaded the 1/05 Stage 1 Doomsday map into the PROcede and started a datalog. As difficult as it was to suppress my lead foot, I allowed the car a proper warm up during the near-freezing February night. Once I got the oil temps up to normal operating range, I started to unleash the beast.

My first high boost experience was on the freeway doing some 60-90mph pulls. Needless to say the power delivery was instantaneous, and I reached those illegal speeds effortlessly. My very first thought was how, even at higher speeds, I was thrown back into the seat violently. I just had to get off the freeway and do some launches.

I did a few quick 0-60mph launches where it was safe. This time I got to experience the unbelievably smooth power delivery the PROcede tune boasts. The turbo lag I had endured with the 29.2 software was gone. On top of that, I learned how useless first gear is with all this newfound torque, so I made a mental note that I needed to relearn how to launch properly again. Even WOT in second gear is squirrely with traction control limited.

I reluctantly headed home, but I wanted to see the results of the datalog from the night. The first couple of hard pulls yielded a slightly inconsistent boost curve, undulating +/- 2psi during the run. The remaining pulls and launches, however, showed a very smooth boost curve at about 13-13.5psi, with the typical spikes at the shift points.

Synopsis

The PROcede V3 Rev II computer is the culmination of years of learning and tuning the N54 platform. It offers gobs of smooth, silky torque immediately upon request and at any RPM. Overtaking other vehicles is effortless in higher gears and downright scary when downshifting. The software is very easy to use and boasts several user-adjustable settings and a powerful real-time datalogging tool that would satisfy any car geek.

My 335i just grew a new pair.

Drag Results

Did a few runs at the strip. In my defense, I haven't been to the strip in years, and I've never really practiced launching the car since I got the tune. The traps are decent, but I definitely need to work on my launches!

Run #1 (lots of wheel hop and a late 1-2 shift):
R/T - 0.167
60' - 2.264
330' - 5.940
1/8 - 8.872 @ 87.29
1000' - 11.316
1/4 - 13.380 @ 109.43

Run #2 (absolutely horrendous 1st gear):
R/T - 0.186
60' - 2.803
330' - 6.791
1/8 - 9.785 @ 83.68
1000' - 12.304
1/4 - 14.415 @ 105.57

Run #3 (some wheel hop in 1st and had to let up a bit):
R/T - 0.335
60' - 2.386
330' - 6.048
1/8 - 8.955 @ 84.41
1000' - 11.397
1/4 - 13.473 @ 108.67

I've been out practicing my launches. First gear is such a bitch with 6MT. Hopefully it won't be too embarrassing this Sunday! The weather needs to hold out, too.

Hot stuff Eric.. great review. We should get together and knock out some BT tool scans of your runs to post up as well.

I think we may get screwed on the drag day since it looks like 180% chance of rain now The next TestnTune is on the 29th so we may be able to hit up that day instead.

Fo sho...and I'd definitely be down for a track day whenever it's actually sunny!

Are you doing the 1/4? Isn't 4th gear good enough? If not, maybe an SSK would help.

Yes, just the 1/4 for now. I'm not following what you mean about 4th gear.

Unfortunately we got hardcore rained/hailed/snowed out today, so we'll have to wait until the 3/29 for the next test 'n' tune day.

smooth looking graph So I pretty much have the same setup minus the Autobahn, so I guess I'm pushing somewhere around 330~340rwhp/rwtq. good to know. Can't wait for your 1/4 result.

I think you'll hit 330+ easily without an aftermarket exhaust. I really need to practice my launches for next weekend's drag day. After riding in Septro's JB'd XI, I realized there's still a ton more power to be put to the ground properly!

I'm trying to convince him to head down the DP and Intercooler route but he's fidgeting too much

C'mon Eric I know you wanna do it - someone's got to take up DigitalJames mantle on the PROcede side!
