After I cleaned ours on our 2007 335i I reversed their position. I read somewhere that they wear differently and that helps. so far after 2K miles no further issues.

Yes, very easy and you can find tons of DIY videos on youtube.
However when I cleaned mine I had a little bit of trouble pulling them out and my hands are big and didn't have the most comfortable position and space. But it's very easy. |

002a87 outlet vanos
Only happened twice now. Also throws up fuel pump plausibility. I think that just comes up because of the vanos fault. I’ve not had a chance to clean them yet, hoping this weekend to get a can of brake cleaner to give them a good blast out. |

Just a note:
The reason it's suggested to swap the solenoids is to see if the code moves, therefore explicitly identifying the faulty solenoid. Due to the conditions that can cause these faults, the act of removing and replacing the solenoids could potentially dislodge whatever is causing the fault condition. While "uneven wear" isn't completely out of the question, the Δ in wear over the two is ultimately negligible. *Edit. Hahah I just noticed how old this thread was, sorry to bring it back, hopefully it's helpful to someone. |
